Idk how to define my positions on social issues but I am generally pretty conservative otherwise. I just don't understand the pushback on gay marriage.
I see the marriage recognized by the state and the marriage recognized by the church as 2 different issues. My marriage is recognized by the church bc I was married by a priest and is recognized by the state bc I paid my fee & filled out the paperwork. Idk why we wouldn't recognize any marriage legally if the 2 people involved filled out the same paperwork & paid the same fee. That paper & tax doesn't make a marriage "sacred." The people, their Faith & their commitment makes a marriage sacred.
Why shouldn't they have end of life benefits, insurance benefits, etc? Why shouldn't children of same sex marriages have the legal protection & benefits offered to children of heterosexual parents? If people's arugements are for the well being of children, then they should take a hard look at their Anti Gay Marriage stance. As an adoptive mother, I can tell you there are many children out there who can use families of any kind. Besides, no one really thinks they can stop people from living together & raising a child by denying marriage, do they?
