AP: US "intelligence...doubts Assad himself ordered the strike"

quote:

The official conceded that there is no proof listed in the report tying Assad personally to ordering the attack, but the official also said there was no mention in the report of the possibility that a rogue element could have been responsible.

quote:

So while Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that links between the attack and the Assad government are "undeniable," U.S. intelligence officials are not so certain that the suspected chemical attack was carried out on Assad's orders, or even completely sure it was carried out by government forces, the officials said.

quote:

Ideally, the White House seeks intelligence that links the attack directly to Assad or someone in his inner circle to rule out the possibility that a rogue element of the military decided to use chemical weapons without Assad's authorization. Another possibility that officials would hope to rule out: that stocks had fallen out of the government's control and were deployed by rebels in a callous and calculated attempt to draw the West into the war.

LINK

This news has to sadden the war mongers.

Didn't know the IRS was involved.

But let's weaken him with a missile attack anyway. That way he'll have less ability to control his field commanders. They can pop some more gas. Then we can weaken Assad further. And so it geauxs.

But.... We were assured...

Whereas Saddam's actionable violations were conjectural or goaded by American warmongers, Assad's are actual and evident

We bomb the wrong people all the time with drone strikes. Nothing happens. Nothing will happen.

Actually I think it does make them happy. Believe it or not, I do believe the Obama administration does not want to enter into another ME conflict. If it is determined that the chemical weapons were used by a low level commander or by the rebels to goad the West into a conflict and not under Assad's authority , the administration has a clear out. A clear out from that stupid "red line" box that Obama painted himself into.

This is becoming like a bad Abbot & Costello routine. I hope that someone slows everyone the heck down and finds out who is really responsible before we jump into another war.

That is really funny...not laughing at the seriousness of the situation. Just laughing at our Keystone Cop foreign policy.

Why?

Why is Syria a threat to the US?

In fact, the Assad regime seems like the best alternative for the Christians in Syria. The other likely alternative is rebel rule and that means sharia law. Not good for Christians.

my thoughts exactly on reading the link...oh, our bad, we'll just stand down now...but it's not because Obama's a do-nothing blowhard, we just had bad information.
