That shite is shameful. American workers get fired and have to train the foreign replacement to get severance pay?

I mean wtf?

What the frick country do we live in? And how do we elect 'leaders' who allow this nonsense?

And I just saw the big news that Miley Cirus will become a U.K. citizen here.

Yep. Our priorities are fricked beyond belief.

It's worse than that.

Companies would rather develop and train unskilled H1B workers because they will hold the visa sponsorship over their heads when, after a few years, they become skilled. The visa workers can't negotiate for fair wages.

To them, this is better than developing workers in Mississippi, Louisiana, or Kansas because they will eventually want a raise.

Yeah, but all the Progs/Dims think the more immigrants, legal or illegal is a good thing....., until they start taking their jobs, now we got a problem.

As anyone in the tech industry about H1B abuses. It's pretty widespread.

We never properly indexed the H1B visa to inflation.

Can't pinpoint it, but I will say it's garbage they have to train the replacements. Which they obviously will do they get severance.

I'm all about capitalism as long as the country's people don't get screwed.

Pretty much what one of the congresmen said during the piece. He had helped it pass in '90, and said it's total bs now

What does fast and easy immigration have to do with capitalism?

Never mind. You're from the crowd that thinks tax cuts are bad for the middle class.

This happened to me in early 2014. Told them to shove it up their arse. Lost my severance but it was OK because I had a new job lined up in the broadcast industry in Iowa within a week. It all worked out in the end, had this not happened I never move to Iowa and get back into broadcast TV.

With that being said it is total B.S. we had to train people in the Philippines and India who spoke bad English if any English at all.

Index it to inflation, and you'll start seeing tech companies recruiting and developing more talent in the heartland.

I think it's really more about having the ability to dump your current IT force in a few years when changes make them obsolete. Many companies are employing old line programmers/analysts that can't keep up with the pace of change.

Well, what is Trump going to do about it? Isn't he guilty of hiring H1B visa workers?

Nope. Don't you know the answer can't be employee protections because corporations always do the right thing and pay reasonable wages to hard workers. In return, the company profits and those profits "trickle down" to all the lower level workers. No need for regulations. Corporations are run by fair, honest, and sharing people who always care about America before their bottom line.
