Suppose to allow more accessibility to suppressors for firearms, seems like it would be something that should push through without much resistance.
quote:
Hearing Protection Act of 2015
This bill amends the Internal Revenue Code to: (1) eliminate the $200 transfer tax on firearm silencers, and (2) treat any person who acquires or possesses a firearm silencer as meeting any registration or licensing requirements of the National Firearms Act with respect to such silencer. Any person who pays a tax on a silencer after October 22, 2015 may receive a refund of such tax.
The bill amends the federal criminal code to preempt state or local laws that tax or regulate firearm silencers.

If I'm reading that right, it's still registered in the NFA database but we don't pay the $200 tax? Is that correct?

You should be able to buy a suppressor just like any other firearm. Walk in and do an NCIS check walk out the same day. It's crazy you can buy suppressors over the counter in France but not in the USA.

Pretty sure this does away with registering process. But I'm not legal expert.

I also believes it allows an individual to purchase a suppressor without going through the paperwork in place now. It would just be the same process as purchasing a firearm.

This would be great. I bought one back in June and still haven't been able to pick it up because of the stupid paperwork. It takes over 6 months to get approved and the current rate.

The ATF is saying wait times are around a year now.
