More like Chinese oligarchs using bitcoin to get their money out of China. China has pretty tight rules for keeping their money in China. Bitcoin is an easy loophole.

So why are Japan and even Belgium doing it too?

eta: needed to correct subject/ verb agreement. Still going to sit back and watch everyone who's normally so correct be neutral when a good point contradicts their reality. I'm going to get filthy rich off Trump, thank you all very much...

I'm not saying others aren't using it. For starters, there are a lot more Chinese than Japanese and Belgians. What I've read leads me to the belief it is the Chinese that are moving it so strongly.

Apparently Bitcoin has a $20B market cap now. What's the next level it moves to? From the article I linked, it's still much too small for institutional money. So where does the cap move? None of the other alt coins have the volume or value to attract institutional money if Bitcoin can't.

I have 97.3 Bitcoins. I used to Run a HPC datacenter from 2004 to 2012, that had around 100k CPU's cores. As a lark I ran several useless projects, like gene folding, SETI searching, and Bitcoin mining during "idle CPU" time. (As a note the Projects weren't completely useless, since being CPU and memory bound, I could do performance metrics.)

I will never cash in the bitcoins for 3 reasons.

1st: The currency is bullshite and is mainly used by peoples trying to do nefarious illegal transactions.
2nd: The equipment, facilities(including power costs), and my labor were furnished and paid for by tax payers.
3rd: I do not wish to end up in Prison. (Using GFE for personal profit and all)

Why would you end up in prison for selling them?

Yeah I don't see why that would be a problem as long as you paid capital gains (also one of the reason I'm not cashing out). Selling 973 would be a bitch, too. Maybe if MtGox hadn't been run by a bunch of shysters, they'd have bought them at 10 or 15 points below trading value, but that ship has sailed.

I have read that Chinese are converting their money to Bitcoin to protect it from the government, and that has had an impact on its value rising.

Edt: Poli board users might be the dumbest of all TD boards. You guys have senseless bias, ignorant or stupid.

What else do y'all own? I traded a Bitcoin for some ethereum a year or so ago. Didn't end up being a good trade as of now.
