re: Ann Coulter on fox wow

quote:

Based on time. I believe a lot of the "entitlement" comes from the Jim Crow era, and what people are being taught by their elders about those times. It takes time for social ills to heal. Everybody is different in how they view certain issues.

But the evidence clearly shows a pattern contradictory to this. We are 150 years removed from the slavery era, and it is still brought up everyday on this board. I suspect the blame for Jim Crow will exist 150 years from now as well. Moving towards a European society, combined with these entitlements... I hope you are right, I believe you are wrong.

How would you rate my answer on a scale of 1-10? That is a very tough question to ask someone...

There will be no "excuses" that are intertwined with that era, such as education, fatherless homes, welfare, and other social ills...

Will there be any excuses?

One could argue the family structure and other measures of a functional society were higher in that era BBTAIM

Assuming there are still substantial gaps in society between the races 20 years from now, what do you think will be the STATED basis for this difference?

Is there any evidence that fatherless homes in black community are on the decline?

Is there any evidence that if these "fathers" were in the homes things would be any better?

Which home does the father go to? If you have babies with three women or children by 5 men, what type of homes do you construct? Are the baby mommas civil about these relationships or do they beat the crap out of one another?

How do felons and unemployable males become good fathers? Role models seems to be a non-starter? Do they read books? Does the state create a program to pay for this character building enterprise? Perhaps hire unemployable black males to teach other black males to be good dads?

This myth about all we need are fathers in the homes and things get better is one of the most foolish beliefs imaginable.

They should go to their own house. They should construct the same type of homes mormons use

There will always be some kind of excuse. I don't think America no matter what race/issue can completely eliminate that from this country.

I'm thinking more on the lines of 40 years, but probably some inferiority complex or genetics (which I disagree with) will be the stated basis.

Then the baby mommas leave public housing?

Mormons are hardworking and very functional people, how do the indolent dysfunctional create habitats? Is there going to be a federal program to provide this housing?

Obviously you need to start doing your job better
I wish it were that simple.

The fact is, more is expected from the school system than ever before. It used to be about a well-rounded education, now it is about being a co-parent. I am now responsible for the emotional and social development of the children.

That used to be the parent's job.

You want to save the black family, end the War on Drugs.

That would return many young fathers, and keep even more from being slaughtered.

But, there is always going to be a question asked why are (insert race) better at parenting than black people.

Parenting is a skill IMO. It has to be learned just like a trade.

And just like any trade, you're going to have some people who excel at it and some who don't. But there is no reason why the vast majority if parents can't get to the level where they aren't raising violent sociopaths.

So are black people. Regarding federal program to provide housing, see Israel.

I'm not sure how one would conduct an empirical study, but there is plenty of anecdotal evidence. Stories of prominent black people who had troubled childhoods usually contain something along the lines of, "those guys in the street where my family".

When mom and dad aren't providing emotional support and you're getting it from guys already engaged in illegal activity, the outcomes seem predictable to me.

I wouldn't say that the physical presence of a father is the key. I would say that a nurturing set of parents/guardians is the key. If the father is a belligerent drunk who beats mom all the time, that's obviously not going to do kids any good.

Yes. Statically kids who grow up in a traditional home or at least have a father figure tend to be more productive members in society.

If not BBBS has been lying their arse to me for years, even though I see it with my "little"

There was a time that was true. It is still true for many.

But the stereotype of the hardworking black has long been replaced. Blacks are seen as incapable of performing to the same level as their contemporaries. Government EO regulations, different race-based score standards and entrance requirements, entitlements, and AA have fostered that perception and the stigma it creates.

When the LAW declares you incapable of competing, or performing equally, what are people going to think?

My wife taught high school for 5 years and what you're saying is exactly how she felt. She taught at a "high performing school", but still most of the parents were detached and disengaged.

It's actually kind of disturbing when you think about it. Parents can raise kids that are total self-destructive, violent, f-ups with no worries because the cost of that is 100% socialized. You just kick them out when they turn 18. Problem solved, even after he murders someone.

OK let me try again, a POS that has numerous babies perhaps with different women, and doesn't support them, doesn't have a job, is frequently in the justice system, enjoys drugs isn't going to be a good dad just because he comes home in the evening.

They are bad dads because of their character, lack of responsibility and abilities not their lack of training.

I would say that a nurturing set of parents/guardians is the key.

OK good luck with that.

IMHO, something like that is largely what we are working with. And these mothers largely suck, 50% drop out rates from crap HS's, no ability to work, drug and alcohol abusers, etc.

re: Ann Coulter on fox wow
My gym has MSNBC on one of the TV's so while I'm working out I catch some of their programming and Mr. Sharpton went on a rant yesterday about someone calling Mr. Obama lazy.

His point was that calling him lazy is not ok because it can be seen as a generalized statement about black people and is offensive.

It is laughable that this person is taken seriously.
