All the crap I pay with my property taxes

Property tax bill came in, and it pisses me off anew every year.
I paid almost $1,100. Of that, maybe $460 is something that actually does or could benefit me (police, fire, etc). But I also pay the following that I in no way benefit from or utilize and find it criminal I have to contribute to:
1. Library - $100 - This is obsolete in 2014
2. Public School - $400 (I went to private school and so will my kids)
3. BREC - $130 - This should be pay per use
Why the hell do I have to fund these damn things?!
Stop taking my money, you leeches!

That's nothing. Try doing a breakdown of your federal taxes. Your head will explode. It's science.

Wouldn't you say an educated workforce benefits all of soceity as a whole?

I wish I could feel the same way. I feel the government came to my home with a gun, picked me up by my ankles, turned me upside down, and shook out all of my money every time I get my property tax bill and see the utter, utter crap I am paying for.

Since when does Baton Rouge Public Schools equate education?

Obviously not. Many who go to public school in Baton Rouge do not seem to be making me or society in general better off, on average.

I almost wish I lived in a trailer so I could avoid these damn property taxes (no clue if they pay prop taxes but I would assume not).

Damn. Wish mine were that low. That's about 1/4 of mine and dammit I use very little. I would gladly pay more for better services that benefit my family, like the recreation tax ascension idiots voted down, but I am out-idioted in ascension. Thanks Donaldsonville and Gonzales.
Also, like someone else said. Break down your federal income taxes, Medicare and SS. You'll want to jump off a bridge.

I'm almost grateful that isn't supplied. I might go postal on the fact I am paying for some fair in Minnesota or the barn on some ranch in Colorado or the numerous other pork barrel items we confiscate taxpayer dollars for.

Why force everyone to pay for what only some will use? Why not just tell private business or non-profits run it and charge only those using it for the "recreation"?

That's close to the estimated property taxes on the house the wife and I just bought. It's just a smidge under a half-acre and the taxes are estimated to be just a little above. Either he is in a decent-sized place in St. G like we are, or he's in a small place within the city.

The only one that really bugs me is the CATS tax.. The amount that buses are subsidized just seems completely illogical to me.. If it were a quality mass trans system then I probably wouldn't mind..

My sister, who works for the state, recently texted me about her new position. I responded jokingly, "My tax dollars at work". She replied, "Oh, my office doesn't get any tax money" I said, "Oh, realllly?"
She said, 'Well, we do get a Federal grant..."

No. I think we should go back to apprenticeships starting around age 8 after we get a good idea of IQ levels. If your child is stupid and you want them to go to college, hire a tutor or do home schooling. It won't work but it's all about freedom.

Thank the Lord in Heaven I don't have to pay for that crap. I don't live in the city limits. As another poster indicated, I am in the St. George area. If my area gets annexed, I better get to vote on whether I pay for CATS. I showed up to the polls that day to vote it down just to make sure, only to see my polling place was closed since we didn't vote on it.
