you can't just throw the contract out the window because of changed circumstances.

Anyway, I've had my fun.

Having spent some time in New York I'm not the least bit surprised by this. It's just a different culture up there. Southerners knock them for abc and they knock southerners for xyz.

it's just different, one doesn't have to be "right" and the other "wrong"

Some of these States need laws prohibiting the exclusion of non-union assistance for the restoration of critical services after a declared federal emergency. Of course the unions and their buddies in the legislatures will never agree to this.

Apparently Obama wants to throw Fed beurocracy out the window to get things done for Sandy, but it's failing. Contracts? LMAO. I'll play this game for hours. Let's go, I have all night now.

Yeah, we get it, you're devil's advocate. I agree that it could be shite journalism at work here. However, the fact that it's a two-party contractual agreement doesn't change the context of what everyone's bitching about at all. And you know that.

And, that's the point. It's not the Utility Company that is at fault. It's the unions that make demands like this that negatively impact the consumer. It is a microcosm of the Union impact on consumers all over.

Have a cousin that's trying to do an apprenticeship as an electrician on Long Island. The system up there does not even remotely resemble a free market.

I mean ok but who are you to tell New York how to do things? How would you react if they attacked the south for how we do things down here?

This is a big fricking place, there are a lot of different kinds of people who have a lot of different ideas about how things should be run. Go out to the Pacific Northwest and it will feel like another country. What makes your values better than anyone else's?

Two things.

1. No fricking shite. This is why I'm all about states rights and am a conservative. What you just said represents perhaps the most fundamental factor in shaping my political beliefs.

2. I'm trying to break into the financial industry, so living in a borderline socialist society stands as a huge hindrance to me in moving to NYC. So it can affect someone like me implicitly.

It's partially the way it is because a lot of people up there don't want people from other parts of the country coming up there and taking their jobs. That's just the way they have decided to prioritize things. It's their state, not yours.

That's not how it works at all.

There are times for unions to be anal-retentive, this isn't one of them. They need to get the power up. So, they need to sit down and shut-up and work together with the help offered and get it fixed.

I agree with you. I lived in MA for 2 years. But you left out "necessary". Whether right or wrong, help is needed. I'm sure most of the "powerless" could give two shits about a union card at this point.

Plus, if you haven't noticed, there are a shite ton of details missing from this little news story.
well, of course there is missing parts - if it was anything positive for the Obama admin, it would have never appeared in TD. The right wings nuts love "gotcha" stories.
