What else did we expect to happen by purposely drawing down the numbers and asking those left to pick up the slack?
But, "Oh! Cut defense spending, and kick people out so we can spend less on personnel!"
Performance and operational capabilities be damned.

quote:
“Your Air Force has been at war since Desert Shield/Desert Storm. This wing has been at war since that time for 25 years. We went to the Middle East when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, and we never left," said Col. Stephen Jost. At the start of the Gulf War, the Air Force had 134 fighter squadrons. Over the past few decades, that number has been cut to 55. Yet, the Air Force is conducting nearly 70 percent of the strike missions against ISIS and conducting 90 percent of midair refueling missions over Iraq and Syria since August 2014.
I'm sorry but I'm not going to take complaints about having to drop bombs on goat herders that pose zero threat to our aircraft or Air Force personnel from an Air Force that has the equipment and training to fight a superpower.

Yeah, well that's what they get for not accepting me three years ago. "Too old" and "mentally unstable" my arse.

What's the average deployment length for an airman?

90-180 days 2:1 dwell time. My last three years I average over 200 day per year gone.

BLAM BLAM BLAM!!!
There really is a function in the Defense Establishment that says the less you can spend on people, the more you can spend on R&D, and exotic grossly overpriced weapons.
That is where the money is in Defense stocks.
So the troops' pay, their housing, their perks (Commisaries, allowances for housing, etc.) the education and health care of their dependents -- frick all that.
frick their care when they get wounded.
But do fly a flag on Veterans' Day.
We have got to break up the Defense Establishment as it exists today.

This is my second draw down and thats how it happened both times. But the Army doubles down on the stupid and kicks the wrong people out. Smaller less capable force.

BTW Army hasn't cornered the market on stupid.

Some of that blame belongs on lawmakers as well as AF command

Dwell time means for everyday I am deployed I should be able to realistically expect 2 days at home station. It was at one point 4:1
My last three years I averaged about 200 days away from home station.
