It's symbolic - just like Obama swearing to uphold the Constitution.

Here are some examples from this website linked. This is pretty funny.

South Carolina:

It is a capital offense to inadvertently kill someone while attempting suicide.

It is illegal to give or receive oral sex in South Carolina. Apparently this sucks for you (or rather not)!

Alabama:

Boogers may not be flicked into the wind.

You may not have an ice cream cone in your back pocket at any time.

California:

It is a misdemeanor to shoot at any kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale.

Women may not drive in a house coat.

No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour.

I thought sodomy laws were still "on the books" in a lot of states--including La. Oral sex falls under those.

Once 3/4 ratified it, it's meaningless to do anything, this was basically a waste of time and taxpayer money.

The 13th Amendment was rejected and later ratified by Delaware (February 8, 1865 - February 12, 1901), Kentucky (February 24, 1865 - March 30, 1976), New Jersey (March 16, 1865 - January 23, 1866) and Mississippi (December 4, 1865 - March 16, 1995).

quote:

The amendment was subsequently ratified by Oregon, December 8, 1865; California, December 19, 1865; Florida, December 28, 1865 (Florida again ratified on June 9, 1868, upon its adoption of a new constitution); Iowa, January 15, 1866; New Jersey, January 23, 1866 (after having rejected the amendment on March 16, 1865); Texas, February 18, 1870; Delaware, February 12, 1901 (after having rejected the amendment on February 8, 1865); Kentucky, March 30, 1976 (after hearing rejected the amendment on February 24, 1865). The amendment was rejected by Mississippi, December 4, 1865, but subsequently ratified on March 16, 1995.
