Sons teacher told him, his words not mine, "Abraham Lincoln was a Republican back then, but thats the same as today's Democrats".
Unreal.

And if this was true, I would write a letter to the Superintendent and School Board.
Something in writing. Request the academic argument that Abraham Lincoln is a 2016 style Democrat, and state you want to understand this academic argument so you can better help the educators do their job. Ask for references and citations.

She's right, you know. There was an ideological shift that happened between the two parties.

No. Both have evolved since the 1860s, though.

Unless you're doing to tell me FDR fought for low taxes, smaller government and less regulation

He and others were actually called "black republicans".
True.
Suck it Bill Clinton.

Really?
I know a bunch of Republicans. I've watched a bunch of debates. I've never once in my life met a proslavery Republican.
Please explain.

Lincoln hated God, wanted abortion on demand, supported safe spaces, and thought trannies should use the girls restroom? As I asked him, "were you tested over this? If so what was correct answer about Lincoln's party on the test?" He said Republican. So atleast she's just editorializing and not rewriting history.
I simply told him his teacher is confused or drastically simplifying things. There is so little alike about either party today that it is ridiculous to say such things.

I am as conservative as you can get, but the teacher is pretty much right in some ways. Lincoln was actually a Whig, but the Whig party had imploded. 1860's Republicans were for big government and tax and spend.
There is really no way to compare the social ideologies because the 1860's are so different from today.
The South switched party affiliations in the 1980's because of the movement of the Democratic party to left wing social ideologies. Northern Democrats and Southern "Dixiecrats" were not on the same page anyway. The Dixiecrats were absorbed by the newly renovated Republican party.

I know one thing. Segregationist Democrats back then are today's Republicans, and that's indisputable.
Saying that an 1860 Republican is a Democrat today isn't as inaccurate as you assume.

The Republicans of the 1800s fought for more government while Democrats fought for less. The Democrats during Lincoln's time were primarily the Southerners who wanted government out of their business, leaving the states to do their own thing, completely opposite to where we are today. The switch happened somewhere around the turn of the century as the politicians vied for the votes of the westerners that were still relatively new in regards to representation. FDR was a Democrat that obviously was for big, big government.
It's not a conspiracy, and I'm as Conservative as they get, politically speaking.

It's completely false. But my son is discerning enough to recognize it as such.

Two can play at that game...
