I wonder what MLK would say about a President who's character cannot be questioned simply because of the color of his skin?

How different would the civil rights advancements have been in that amount of time without the likes of Jessie and many others in control of it?

Here's more food for thought- I wonder what he would think about the Democrats now putting out the propaganda that they were behind the civil rights push.

How many people think MLK was a Democrat?

For you younger folks who weren't there at the time...for at least 10 years after the assassination there were a bunch of black activists who insisted that James Earl Ray did not kill MLK. The claim was that he was the dupe fall guy picked to cover for the real assassins ... the CIA.

George D'Artois fitted his police cars with wooden battering rams for the expected riots in Shreveport.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Angry White Guys would see this thread as nothing more than an opportuntiy to vent.

LBJ was a Democrat, that's not propaganda, it's fact.

I know that MLK, Sr. was a Republican but I'm not sure what MLK, Jr was, not that it matters in the overall scheme of things. FYI, both of them campaigned for Democratic Presidential nominees in 1960 and 1964.

trackfan, I agree with you. This whole idea of party affiliation through history is misleading. MLK was a Leftist. Today he would be a Democrat. His dad would be a Democrat. His children are all Democrats.

MLK was very much in favor of big govt and redistribution of wealth. He was also not very popular among blacks at the time of his death. That was the era black separatism. Very radical times.

I wasn't venting. I was being serious. Thanks for your concern, though.

LBJ got behind it as a means of utilizing the legacy of JFKs memory as a political tool for the Dems especially with regards to Congress and the assumed re-election bid in '68 before the rug got yanked from beneath him by Cronkite.

Angry that ignorance voted in a man, based on his color, who is painfully and obviously unqualified for the office he holds? Twice?

oh and fixed your spelling error too.

Life just released these amazing new photos that were taken just after the MLK assassination.

Some of them are pretty brutal to look at though.
