Cancers associated with being overweight or obese account for 40% of all diagnoses of the disease in the United States, an increasing share of all cancer diagnoses nationwide.

Although new cases of cancer have fallen since the 1990s, diagnoses of overweight- and obesity-linked cancers increased between 2005 and 2014, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Being overweight is associated with increased risk for 13 types of cancer.

People don't want to take responsibly for their own health. This is why medical care in our country is shite/going to shite. This is why medical insurance is skyrocketing.

If every American excercised 3-5 times a week and actually ate right we could eliminate this health insurance crisis. But don't say that because it hurts people's feelings.

This is reason number 984827279 you cant have socialized medicine here.

Zero self accountability with our folks. Disease and ailments directly linked to people abusing their bodies.

Tom Petty just died, and he looked like a bean pole. Dude has never been fat in his life, yet he didn't make the average (male) life expectancy of 76. (To be fair, I don't know if he was a smoker).

And I don't think obesity is necessarily a "lifestyle" choice. People want to simplify it to calories in and out. It's not that simple. For instance, there is research ongoing into the role of gut flora (your natural gut bacteria) causing obesity. There is evidence that BPA and other plasticizers might contribute to endocrine problems for some people, which contributes to obesity. Then there's hormones like leptin which regulate hunger -- some people might have problems with the proper regulation of this hormone. Some people can tolerate carbs and sugars better than others, etc. A lot of it probably comes down to genetics and how our bodies individually react to various environmental and dietary factors.

Dude was a chain smoker. As bad as obesity is, smoking is worse

I honestly had no idea obesity was linked to cancer. I knew being a fatass caused a myriad of other things, but not cancer.

Time to hit gym.

But first, I have to finish off this half gallon of ice cream.

Dude he did a little more than smoke. No amount of veggies can bring you back from years of coke and heroin use.

Bring back the use of shaming them. Stop defending them.

Some chemicals are carcinogens and some chemicals are fat-soluble. If a chemical is both, the more fat you have the more of those chemicals are built up in your body.

Well you would be wrong. Big difference between being a little overweight and freaking obese. Obesity is a lifestyle choice due to not eating properly and inactivity. That's it.

You're fat and wrong on this. Unless by "dietary factors" you mean eating too much.

I'm sorta fine with the idea of a sugar tax in light of this stuff. It's gonna be a pretty major contributor to medical costs. But it would have to apply to stuff like breakfast cereal, not just big sodas.
