2017 New Orleans Mayoral Election Discussion Thread

New Orleans has obviously turned into a wasteland of thugs. With the recent news spotlighting just how bad it has gotten, it led me to look up the quickly approaching mayoral race for the city.
So, for those of you in the know, which of these candidates, if any, have the best shot at being a halfass decent mayor?
Those officially in the running so far are:
-City Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell
-Civil District Court Judge Michael Bagneris
-Businessman Frank Scurlock
-Municipal Court Judge Desiree Charbonnet
-registered nurse Ed Bruski
Those who are considering running:
-Rep. Walt Leger
-Sen. J.P. Morrell
-Sen. Karen Carter Peterson
-Sidney Torres
I'm putting this here, rather than the Poli Board, because I'd rather hear the OT's answers, seeing as New Orleans' issues have been so prominently discussed here lately.

Take whoever is gonna be the most corrupt on paper and that's who will win. It's New Orleans

I think you go with the male nurse on this one

People should vote for who's the most law and order out of them all. That's all that matters here for the next election.

Sidney cares about the city probably more than any of them.
Frank would probably do the best job.
Cantrell or Peterson will probably win because....it's NewOrleans.

Cantrell wins.
Torres should run.
Why isn't Head on this list somewhere? Did she say she isn't running?

As someone living with the Broome administration, y'all better hope not.

Moving to Canada if she is elected

I know I could look myself, but maybe a run down of each candidate would be nice. Anyways, the people here need to stop voting based on race, family name, and who tells the best stories and jokes. Pick the candidate that no one expects to win but is qualified to some degree

Just pure laughable bullshite.
There've always been horrifying crimes, but on the whole, NO's violent crime rates aren't going off a cliff. The post-Katrina years are kind of consistent on the whole--see graph below. The current situation is awful, but better than the early 1990s.
The root causes of crime are so deeply ingrained, no mayor is ever going to make immediate progress. Fixing it will take decades.

I'd really like to see Torres run and know many who feel the same. Surprised he hasn't announced it yet.

I've encountered that guy recently. He's a kook.

One thing is for sure, this man will cleanup the French Quarter.
I'd vote for Sid in a heartbeat

Cantrell is the most pro-BLM candidate in the race.

Because she's the hero we need right now but not the hero we deserve.

Yes. But what I wouldn't give for her to hire Al Snow as her campaign spokesman

From that list Sydney Torres would probably be the best choice, though I don't know anything about the male nurse which might be the best choice.....a non-politician.

Frank has a few screws loose
Leger is a yes man and a panderer
Torres would be the best for the job
Head would be the best but she's not running
All the rest can go to hell

Should probably base his whole campaign on "I'm just here to fix the roads"
I may just vote for the male nurse.
