I know many of you don't like Duke, but I think Cutcliffe is a decent football coach.

Anyway, I saw this on the Duke website about their opening day victory this past weekend. He was describing what college football should be like.

quote:

Since his arrival last December, Cutcliffe has worked almost as hard to generate enthusiasm for the Duke program as he has to coach the Blue Devil team. Last week, he admitted to begging for support, claiming that’s all he could do at that point. He painted a beautiful picture of what he was hoping to achieve – citing the atmosphere at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge before an LSU game as the ideal college football environment.

I thought that was a pretty cool unsolicited compliment.

That's pretty cool that he mentioned us above Neyland Stadium and the Grove, both places where he actually coached at.

That's because, while decent, they do not compare well to the Parthenon of college football that is Tiger Stadium.

Indeed, it's both the Parthenon and The Roman Coliseum of college football.

I've always thought of it as the Baths of Caracalla, with a small hint of the Colossus of Rhodes...

I hope Cutcliffe succeeds at Duke just to remind those idiots at Ole Miss of why they made a huge mistake when they fired him after the 2004 season.

I am also pulling for Cutcliffe- one somewhat down season at Ole Miss, & they let him go. What did they expect right after Eli graduated?

If you talk to Ole Miss fans they are still behind that decision also. It is amazing the amount of idiocy surrounding that program. Pop quiz Ole Miss fans...when was the last time Ole Miss went to a New Years Day bowl before Cutcliffe?

No, he came back in '06 and '07. Randy Sanders was the OC in '05.

Interesting story about Duke football. They had a contract to play Kentucky this year and there was a 300k back out penalty unless Duke could find an adequate opponent to take their place.

Duke is trying to build a program and didn't want to get spanked by UK, so they backed out and UK didn't like the replacements they were being offerred by Duke.

They went to court and Duke got out of the 300k penalty by saying that their football team was so bad, any team was an adequate replacement!

reminds me of the old Shaq quote...when asked if they went to the Parthenon while in Greece, he replied "I don't remember the names of all the clubs we went to"
