Any info on why searels left LSU to take the same position at UGA?

Didn't he go to UGA? Or he may be from Georgia. I seem to remember some connection to UGA.

He probably didn't want to eventually make the move to Michigan.
Seriously though, its just the nature of the business. Position coaches are known to be vagabonds.

He's from Georgia ... played ball at Auburn. Spent a year with Saban here and 2 with Les. Left us before last season which cost him a ring. That's gotta hurt. Studrawa got one.

I think family health reasons, in particular his Dad, played a role too

I also think that he and Miles did not agree on O-line philosophies.

Glad he left. Coach Stud is a better O-Line coach. It seemed like every season under Searels our O-Line didn't gel until about mid season. He got to return home and we got a very "strong", "capable", and "quality" coach to replace him....both sides win.

Terrible OL coach imo. The improvement from Coach Stud was immense.

Searles is possibly the best OL coach in the country. The only problem was he tried to implement his plan and Miles (being an OL man during his days) had other ideas. Watch coach Searles do a super job with Georgia.

While it's only rumor, I heard from players on that team than he and Miles differed on opinion of o-line philosophies

I was having talks on another board with a uga fan and he asked the reason searels left. I didn't know UGA was so inexperienced at O-line for a team some expect to be a contender.
Personnaly I'd ratehr have the experience we have on the O line and a raw qb, then the situation UGA has (experienced qb, but raw line). I always feel that games are won and lost in the trenches.

UGA's projected line

LT - Kiante Tripp (redshirt freshman)
LG - Vince Vance (junior)
C - Chris Davis (sophomore)
RG- Cordy Glenn (true freshman)
RT- Clint Boling (sophomore) after he serves his one game suspension

They think just the opposite here in UGA country. He was on the radio last week and Buck Belue was saying he was the best O-line coach in the country.

funny how line play improved pretty significantly after Miles reportedly starting asserting himself more with the o-line year before last...

I'm not goint to say Searels is great or bad, but I thought he had some lines that underacheived. However that might be the recruiting, or lack thereof, of O lineman. (I don't know how much he had to do with that.)

Didn't UGA offer him something like "assistant offensive coordinator/offensive line coach"?

Searels was a huge step up from the previous Georgia OL coach, Neil Callaway.
