Just reviewing the latest roster available and noticed that #94 is open. I assume this is just because Will Blackwell switched to #60.

However, it made me wonder if #94 (Marquise Hill) should be retired.

considerations for retirement of #94:

PRO's: a great Tigah!, a young life tragically cut short (of couse this is NOT a positive thing, just a reason others have retired #'s), member of 2003 Nat'l Champs, key component in restoring LSU to national prominence

CON's: did not complete 4-year eligibility, does not have the "name" recognition of other past Tiger greats (may open door for why other #'s aren't retired)

just another idle rant until the season starts...

Thoughts?

I definitely think it should, or if it doesn't, I think the players should show respect and not wear it at least. But yes, I think it should be retired personally

no.

lot of former tigers have died way too young...caston, norwood, miley, andolsek, etc....

have no problem with honoring hill in some way, but jersey retirement is not it.

I think just dont make it available for some length of time

or designate it for a "special" player; maybe a rudy type or something that MH had in common

if you want a player that has something in common with M. Hill then give it to a monster defensive player.

Set up a memorial fund or scholarship at the school in his name.

I don't think that retiring his number is warranted.

i wish tiger stadium had some sort of ring of honor type thing

maybe not an actual ring around the stadium, but a little monument plaza area/hall of fame type thing

correct me if im wrong, but didnt he do something with an agent prior to him wanting to come back for his senior year, but realized he could jepordise his elgibility and the teams chances of getting into trouble...something like that

yeah something like that... he was perhaps "unwittingly" coerced or convinced by an agent, then was uneligible. Then Saban went to La Congress and petitioned for the current bill preventing agents from talking to players (have to go to coach)... or something like that

At Pearl River the #18 is used for a player who shows leadership and great qualities on and off the field. That is to honor a fallen member of a past football team. Every two years they select another player to wear it. It's a huge honor around PRCC. Just a thought of what LSU could do with 94. Make it a tradition. Coaches are sure to carry it on. The tradition has lived through three coaches at pearl River.
