This year will be the first time ever that TWO coaches that won a national championship for a particular school will be coaching against each other on the same field (the home field of the team that won the 2 national championships). And it's going to happen twice this year!

I'm saying first time ever and I stand by that. I've been racking my brain to think if it's happened before and I can't come up with anything. If someone can prove that this has happened before, feel free to prove me wrong.

But Spurrier won one at Florida. I think he was saying that Saban and Miles both won one at LSU. Alabama's previous championships have nothing to do with it.

Or, are you just being an arse?

Surely you are joking, and realize it's South Carolina.

Even if we were going to use all divisions of college football, I'm 100% sure that Appy's coach did not win a NC with LSU. Unless Paul Dietzel somehow starts coaching them between now and Aug 30.

What about the 1968 Cotton Bowl, Gene Stallings coached aTm against Bear Bryant at BAMA. It was later that Stallings coached the NC.

ETA: Never Mind

Let me clear up the confusion:

Meyer vs Spurrier, game being played at Florida: both coaches won a NC at Florida.

Miles vs Saban, game being played at LSU: both coaches won a NC at LSU.

No retro. When the game was played they would have to have already BOTH won a NC with the same team.

I just wikipedia'd it and I couldn't find any. But, then again, I was just glancing at it.

I can think of one other.

Sept. 17, 1966 - South Carolina coached by Paul Dietzel plays LSU in Tiger Stadium.

Dietzel - 1958 NC at LSU

Cholly Mac - 1962 NC (Berryman)

I know - that's a bit of a stretch.

Nope, in order for it to fit what is about to happen in 08, Cholly Mack would have had to have won a NC at LSU prior to 1966. Mack didn't even win one at LSU. That's the key, both coaches (Miles & Saban and Meyer & Spurrier) won a NC at the same school.

So you're not willing to count the 62 Berryman title Mac won.

Not sure what Berryman is, but Mac was at LSU in 62.

NCAA Football Champs

Scroll down to 1962.

Yes, Mac was at LSU in 1962, won NC per Berryman

Dietzel was at LSU in 1958, won NC per everybody

Dietzel coached S.C. in 1966 and played LSU in Baton Rouge.

Same situation as Saban coming to play in BR in 08 (if Mac's Berryman title counts)

No, I don't think we can count the Berryman title. Especially since giving in to that would be admitting that Bama has 12 titles. But I'll tell you what, that was an awesome try.
