Mike, if my memory is still working, didn't Nat Moore bust a long kick return to set up their field goal. You remember what Tiger made the game saving tackle?

I recall that Lora Hinton was the first black recruit, but did he ever see much playing time? I know both he and Mike Williams were LSU recruits in the early 70's.

I believe Carl Otis Trimble was the first black football player at LSU. A little before my time, but I remember my dad talking about him. Somebody else can probably confirm this.

That name rings a bell. (See my post on a similar thread.) If he is who I'm thinking of, he got into a Spring Game around 1968 or 1969. The blocking on the play he ran "broke down", and he limped off with a twisted ankle, never to return. I was there, and I saw it happen.

I think that Hinton was the first black recruit to sign, and Williams was the first to actually play a down for the Tigers.

The "Soul Patrol" didn't come along until the late 70's AFTER Robiske and Alexander. Robiske played BEFORE Charles Alexander. Robiske was early 70's, Alexander was middle 70's and the SP was late 70' s.......

It was Mike Willimas. I was at LSU the same timee as he and Collis. I am from New Jersey and talk about naive, I had no idea that the teams just integrated.

We lost to Alabama 21-=7 on National TV on Thanskgiving in 73. Williams slipped and Bama threw a TD pass over him. In those days National TV was a big deal.
