Best ceramic grill? Big Green Egg? kamado? other?

I know that the Big Green Egg is all the rage, and i have heard it is excellent...but is it the best in the following criteria:

1. performance
2. versatility
3. capacity
4. durability
5. warranty/customer service

I'll say this much. My dad recently purchased the XL size green egg and he says if he could do it again he'd get a large and a small because the combined price is less than the 2 combined.

The XL is probably the most versatile but if you have the large and she small you'd have all the versatility you'd need.

But to speak on behalf of the diversity of the product, I've sampled the following from the XL big green egg

Breads
Steaks
Stews
Ribs
Homemade sausage
Roasts

It handles all of these very well(although there is a bit of a learning curve to using it)

You might want to check out the egg forums as well...

From what I understand they're very durable

I have a large BGE and a buddy of mine has a kamdo.

1) Performance is roughly the same

2) Versatility
Plus to the BGE. Multiple sizes and countless accessories allow you to cook more items

3) Capacity
The BGE has 5 different sizes including the giant version released last year. The Kamado is about the same size as the Large BGE

4) Durability.
Both are very durable. The BGE firebox is prone to cracking but it won't affect the cooking and is easy replace under warranty. You should always keep them covered but the Kamado finish seems more prone to damage.

5) Warranty.
No idea on the Kamado but my experience with the BGE has been first rate. My fire box cracked after a year and they simply mailed me a new one. I still use the cracked one, since it doesn't affect anything and I have the new one in a box as a backup.

My BGE is almost 4 years old and still looks brand new. I had to replace the felt gasket last year due to a screwup by me.

We sell the egg's in our stores. I checked out the kamado's at market last year because of price differences. Bottom line is you get what you pay for with these products. I have had nothing but success with the BGE and as stated above, they stand behind their product 100 percent.
