Hilarious. He basically said Petrino would be gone the second he's unhappy. Say what some of you people do about Miles, the idea of loyalty to a program and continuity from year to year is a big selling point for HS recruits and their coaches.

I just wonder where Petrino would go after Arky. What school would hire a guy who left three premium jobs in three/four years? I think that he will be there for a while because no matter how well he does, he wont have many options.

The thing about Saban and Petrino is that their credibility is shot. They can't afford to leave where they are at this point. The only place Saban could ever leave for is LSU, which still might happen in my opinion, if miles leaves after the NC game.

Where is he going to go now? The only chance of him leaving just hired RR and Miles turned them down.

Arkansas isn't far from being a big name program.

Scoop:

You're not worried about the possibility of Saban to Morgantown?

The more you guys disparage Petrino, the more obvious that it becomes to me that you are worried.

Don't fool yourselves, we aren't that far behind you now, and with the hiring of Petrino, we may have closed the gap altogether.

Time will tell

Well, there is no doubt that we took our lumps when we jumped into the SEC right after a huge coaching fiasco. We gave up our Texas recruiting grounds and stumbled through until we got Nutt, who many of you think is the best we can hope for, yet would never be a coach you guys would accept ironically enough.

You guys like to point out to the bama fans that their old NCs don't stand for anything, that the past is over.

So, if the past is just that...the past, we must look forward to the future. There is absolutely nothing intrinsically superior about Tenn, Bama, Aubby over Arkansas. LsU, Ga, and Fl all have better natural recruiting advantages over the rest of us, but good coaching is the only thing that might be able to overcome such an advantage. Good coaching that we just might have now at ARkansas.

I understand that you old-guard SEC programs don't know our history, have no respect for our SWC past, and don't feel we have earned the right to sit at the adults table in the SEC. We have done little to dispel such perceptions. One thing thing though-- I can only pray that the rest of the SEC is as complacent and cock-sure as some of you are about the Razorbacks and our potential.

Look at your own record in the 90s and then the 2000s and see what a difference good coaching makes.

We've finally got a good coach in Fayetteville

Arkansas fans totally amaze me. You seem to think the win this year symbolized a turn in fortunes or something. Arkansas is not and WILL NOT ever be on the same level as LSU. This is not the 1960's and you are not in the Southwestern Conference anymore . Petrino is not the savior that so many of your fans are crowing about and your recruiting could get worse being that Petrino has to defend his character against some of the best recruiters in the country. It's funny that most sports experts outside the State of Arkansas thought getting rid of Nutt was a bad move and Arkansas had pretty much reached it's realistic potential.

BTW, we ARE NOT scared. I would have been somewhat worried had Tubby gone there but Petrino's dog and pony show does not bother me one bit!

WHy is that? My god, take a look at your own record in the 90s and tell me that you guys can't go down a notch or two. why is it a given to you that we can't go up a notch also?

DO you not think that other programs have used Nutt's idiocy against us up to now?? All of the Saban BS hasn't hurt bama, why should it hurt us?

I love it when other programs define for us our 'potential' as if it is etched in stone for all time. I would guess that you would say that both LSU and Arkansas are 'living up to their potential' these days, but it would never occur to you that maybe we HAVEN'T been living up to our potential since we joined the SEC. As I have written before, we will see.

why would you have worried if Tubby had taken the job since, by you reasoning, we are already living up to our potential. By writing this, you implicitly acknowledge that good coaching matters a great deal in this game. I agree with you. I have merely stated that we aren't far behind LSU as it stands now, and I believe that we have made a coaching upgrade. I don't think we are now going to be a superpower, but there is no reason to think that we can't have more success than we have had in the SEC

If Petrino stays at Arkansas for the long term, their program will be much better off than if they had kept Nutt. Any LSU fan who doesn't believe that is fooling himself.

Miles is a nomad as well. He bolted on Oklahoma State right after signing a contract extension. I'm not faulting him for it; it's just part of the game. Rich Rodriguez just left his alma mater for Michigan; I'd be curious to see how much heat he takes for being a "money grubbing coward who will jump at the next big opportunity."

I'm not even going to take the time to respond to the Hog's comments to my last post. I can argue this point until I'm blue in the face but am wasting my time doing so. Time will tell but my OPINION is that Petrino will not be a world beater and Arkansas fans just might wind up missing Houston Nutt.

I can assure you they will not miss Houston Nutt. Them wanting him gone had nothing to with wins and losses, but because of his and his wife's unethical behavior. The media will probably rub it in when they lose more games next year because of the sorry level of talent and depth Petrino is inheriting, but most Arkansas fans will understand this and be patient.

Are you aware of what went on during the Mustain situation? Would you really want a man like that leading your program? I think its funny that people ridicule Arkansas for hiring such an "unethical" coach, when the one they just fired conducted himself in a way that dwarfs anything the new guy has ever done.
