If we hire our next coach from some shithole like Cincinati, I will boycott next season. We don't need to be a testbed for up and coming coaches. Give me someone with a true and proven track record against tough competition.

The bearcats.....I could puke!

Do your homework, this guy can flat out coach!
He would be the best and most realistic hire LSU could make.

Kelly won 2 Divsion II championships at Grand Valley State and at Central Michigan was 9-4 and won the Mid America Conf. Championship.
Also, a very good season at Cincy.
Was 137-51-2 before he went to Cincinnati.
This guy is a good solid football coach and would be a great hire!!

I like the guy. I think he'd be less of a stretch than Les was 3 years ago.

I hope we at least talk to him to see if there is any interest.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but all these rumors of Saban and Spurrier are pure speculation and BS at best. These guys are not coming to LSU, period!
Kelly would be a great hire.

Man, listen to yourself....Grand Valley State??? Central Michigan??? Mid America Conference???

I don't care what his record is a outhouses like that!!!

Hell JT Curtis has a better high school record than that and has won about 20 State championships, but I don't think he could coach our scout team.

Records at places like that mean nothing to me.

Curley Hallman lit 'em up at Southern Miss before he got here....that worked out real well didn't it?

He fits the mold of our recent hires (Miles and Saban), in that he had success at a program that hasn't traditionally been successful.

He looks like a real possibility.

Wow, that's funny

You equate Oklahoma State and Michigan STate to Cincinnati?

you have to think. you can't recruit people to places like that. you don't always have the best talent he was a winner. for 13 seasons at grand valley he averaged around 9-3 record. completely turned central michigan around. you can't just look at who he coached. it's hard to recruit people to small schools. he was winning on coaching talent. look at cincinnati. you can say they aren't that great but this is his first year. if you think he's not a good football coach you're mistaken. isn't that what we look for anyway, a good football coach?

I didn't say he isn't a good coach...I said I don't want someone from a small program to come to LSU to see if they can be successful. And if he "can't recruit at that kind of school" we don't know...maybe he just can't recruit.

I want proven...not hope and promise. Period.

He is 9-3 in his 1st year at Cincinnati so he has shown he can succeed in a BCS Conference.

Les's record his last year at Okie St? 7-5.

The guy is legit and is young enough to stay for 10-15 years.

2007 Results

We need to look beyond the obvious short list and make a bold smart hire and this could very well be the guy.

My main concern is that he would not want to make another change after just one year.

how can you say he isn't proven as a football coach. i don't see how you can make that statement.

I didn't mean it to be funny, just factual!
How many coaches have come from Div. 2 schools and were very successfull? Where do you think Ohio State found Jim Tressell? Where did Nick Saban have his coaching roots? I didn't say anything about Okie St. or Mich. St. you did.
I'm just saying that the chances of landing the Sabans and Spurriers of this world will be slim.
Why don't you tell me why either one would leave where they are to come to LSU.
I don't say that to in any way diminish the greatness of the job here, only to be realistic in our search for a new coach should the need arise.
