If you have a rumor, say your source or don't post it at all.

And your information needs to be firsthand.

Chickie can you sticky this?

its no use, admins have already stated that since this is mainly a 'rumor board' to begin with, that they arent going to enforce regular rumor-thread-whacking rules like they do in the rant....which unfortunately just makes this board just as unreadable as the rant because any rantard can come in here and say whatever.

So if I have a source ... be it a next door neighbor's cousins best friend who knows the janitor at said school it's not a rumor.

Rumors are fun. If we wanted cold, hard facts then why come to a message board. We can just turn on the TV and get it from ESPN. People read this stuff to get info BEFORE it becomes newsworthy. Chicken may as well shut the board down if you eliminate Rumor and SPECULATION.

the board is for coaching changes.

i don't see why every poster who knows soomeone's cousin's grandma should post about information that they don't really know, just to feel special.

I have no problem with rumors. But is it that much to ask that you list your source? Provide some sort of credibility that you know what you're talking about?

tigerwoods:

yeah well, but when the guidlines of the site state:

quote:

Rumors will not be tolerated. News must at least be reported by a mainstream media outlet to support its posting. Other LSU message boards do not count as mainstream media.

the regulars here kinda like to hold that standard.

What is "credible"? For some people it is "my cousins, friends, mother-in-laws boyfriend" and for other's it is lock tight Nightly News reporting.

I own Rumors. I got it Second Hand (Blues?), but I believe the original source was Sam Goody's, I think I was like seventeen at the time.

that's fine. just say that then.

there's a lot of people saying, "i have this great source" but it's actually their parents.

If you say who you got it from, then at least we'll be able to decide if you're worth listening to.

Is it really that hard?>

For this board's purposes I think that you can ignore the "standard." However, I agree with Karma and think that when a rumor is posted that they should just say who their source is or at least state the credentials. Then, we can just take it FWIW.

EXAMPLE:

I heard this rumor that Spurrier will not come to LSU for any reason. He is still bitter about not getting a callback in the 80s.

My source is someone on the LSU board of supervisors.

Yeah, but the rules state that you can't even name a source like the Rivals site. The rules also state that it has to be a credible, mainstream news source. So, what's the point of watching ESPN and running back to the Tigerrant to let everyone know what Sportscenter just said. I'm not trying to be difficult here but speculation is the backbone of internet message boards.

dude. i'm not asking for you to have a fricking iron clad source so you don't get held for libel.

just say who you fricking heard the rumor from. if it's bill at the gas station, then say, "i heard it from bill at the gas station."

that is all.
