This shite is going too far. This is life and death we're talking here.

I'd be perfectly fine with being thought of as sexist if it would keep my fellow Soldiers, Marines, or whoever alive.

I had two female Marines in one of my classes who I would have easily picked over the rest of the dudes, they were actually really good at their jobs. but they had zero desire to go infantry. they told me there are all kinds of bonuses and career type promises being offered to the Females who decide to be a part of the Selection process.

No General, they were just set that high to ensure a better chance of survival and effectiveness for the Marine and those surrounding said Marine.

i guess the question is, how arbitrarily were they set? i have no idea on the test or standards but how much risk does a slight step back create, vs possible benefits of more people able to contribute in action? relaxing them just to say a woman can now pass is silly though.

I'm so glad that I'm retired now. This type of thing is inevitable in today's military climate. It's a matter of time.

And it's more than just physical fitness standards. The living conditions of what my MOs were such that the general opinion was that it was not conducive to having males and females live in that confined of an environment.

If a woman wants to be able to compete with men in the strength department, they are going to need testosterone supplements

This shite right here is something I don't have time for. Many things in politics are completely irrational and idiotic, but this is some shite that'll actually piss me the frick off

God damn is this real life? He's being forced to say shite like this, right?

Well, you want the test to be tough. Having a professional military means being more selective. If you lower the standards, your quality of soldier suffers.

Yes it has to be that high. If it isn't high, then people will die. Good men and women in the field will die. Is that a good enough reason for you Mr. Dempsey? Wounded soldiers will be left on the field to die because another soldier will not be strong enough to carry them off. The fallen will be left behind for the same reason.

For frick's sake.

Attention all male USMC personnel:

By order of the the Commander in Chief and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, you are hereby ordered to urinate in the squatting position to show solidarity with your fellow female Marines. Disobeying this order will be an immediate dishonorable discharge. That is all.

Unfortunately for Dempsey, the Commandant of the USMC sets that policy, not him. CJCS is the principal military advisor to the SecDef and President but the other branch chiefs are also advisors.

Ugh. This is jacked up. Lets just lower standards for everybody.

Time for me to get back into the irr and get out of my reserve unit.

I hope Gen Dunford tells Dempsey to shove it. Then calls him a POG boot.

Veteran checking in here, so don't throw stones my way until you really think it through, but! Women have been in combat scenarios for years in both Russia and Israel with great effectiveness.
The standards are set forth to make it difficult for men to accomplish, more as a test of will and endurance than skill, which makes it practically impossible for women to achieve at all in most cases. The argument for physical strength in order to carry a pack, negotiate obstacles, or carry an injured combatant to safety are legitimate. However
The truth is this, mental toughness, smarts, and the ability to put a round down range accurately are equally important. I've seen many women who were superior to men in this area and in addition some of the best infantrymen God ever created were Korean, Puerto Rican and Gurkhas and can't remember any of them standing over 5'8" 140lbs.
Maybe power to weight ratio should be the better measure for go, no go when determining the standard for troops all things equal.
That said no excuses or dead weight is allowed in any regard for quotas or politics whether man or woman.
