Took him over 20 hours and dealt with the storms, but he finished.

About 20 hours into his journey and Melamed continued, one step at a time. People around him donned ponchos and held umbrellas high, trying to block the deluge. And when Melamed paused, overcome by exhaustion or pain, they were there, holding him and chanting, willing him along Boylston Street, the final competitor in the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon that started Monday morning.

Saw this. And I actually saw him at the start line. He got a huge round of applause. Unbelievably inspiring.

I'd like to know exactly what kind of MD he has. I have a form of it called Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT). It degenerates the nerves in my extremities. It sucks at time, but I managed to stay in the Army 20 years with it and retire. Some forms are very minor, like mine, and some forms make people completely wheelchair bound.

His is definitely not minor.
Obviously he isn't to the point where he needs a wheelchair, but he absolutely gutted through that course with a severe disability.

watch the video of him doing the chicago marathon and then tell me he's not pretty severely disabled.

You can tell he has a moderate-severe form just by seeing the pictures of his legs. The degradation of his leg muscles are pretty noticeable. I definitely give him props for doing the marathon. I sure as hell would even try it.

Much respect. I can't even fathom trying to complete a marathon without MD.

That's kinda ridiculous
"For what is each day but a series of conflicts between the right way and the easy way. 10,000 streams span out like a river delta before you each one promising the path of least resistance. The thing is you’re headed upstream. And when you make that choice and you decide to turn your back on whats comfortable, safe, and what some would call common sense, well that’s day 1. From there it only gets tougher. So just make sure this is something you want because the easy way out will always be there ready to wash you away."

Awesome story. People that do something BECAUSE of the difficulty can offer so much inspiration to everyone else.

By the way, I saw after the fact in the other thread that you were tracking me yesterday. Thanks for the support.
Finished in 4:20:16, which for my first marathon I'm pretty pleased. Can't wait to do another.

This is the kind of story the media should cover more often. Instead, they'll give more coverage to the transgender who has a 1/1000 chance of being on the cover of Men's Health.

Now that's inspiration. And people bitch about the stupid stuff we bitch about. Be thankful for what you have.

While I am not disagreeing with you, I can only suggest change the media you follow because all I had heard of numerous stories like this just in the last week. As far as the Men's Health comment, I don't even know what you're talking about. The media give people what they want sadly; all we can do is ignore the crap thats out there and remove ourselves as far as we can away from it.
