Re-watching the series yet again. Sam Toomey and Leonard Simms heard the same distress signal as Danielle Rousseau's research crew which repeated the numbers over and over again. The same distress signal was heard by flight 316 when passing over the island, due to time moving slower on the island.

Was it ever explained who originally repeated these numbers that was heard by so many, eventually bringing everyone to the island (sans Desmond)? I'm assuming it was all collaborated by Jacob, but I don't remember it actually being explained. Was it the Man in Smoke? Or was it the Dharma Initiative's distress signal after the hatch was built?

Wish I would have never wasted my time on that show.

More loose ends than a yarn store.

It's times like this that I consult the Oracle.

quote:

Likely constructed some time in the 1970's, the radio tower's purpose, according to the Sri Lanka Video, was to broadcast the core numerical values of the Valenzetti Equation (aka the Numbers). If any of the DHARMA research projects on the Island succeeded in changing one of the digit values, the broadcast would be changed, signaling their backers in the outside world that "the one true way" had been found to change the Valenzetti Equation. The tower would broadcast continuously on a secret frequency in an encrypted format known only to the backers of the DHARMA Initiative in the outside world.

tl;dr - some nameless DHARMA Initiative flunky.

lol! It's okay, the time-flipping format makes it hard to catch everything. ;)

I still love the show. At some point I will go back and re-watch. They probably bit off a little more than they could chew with some of the story, but I still thought it was unique and kind of revolutionary for a tv series. Not perfect, but highly addictive and entertaining.

Interesting. I always assumed it was Jacob and this was his way of bringing everyone to the island. Dharma Initiative played a much bigger role than I assumed.
