Any good food/booze options the Board can recommend?

Eat dinner at East/West and lunch or a hungover meal at The Varsity (gotsta).

No, just no.

Dinner at Last Resort.

Hungover? Food for the Soul, Mama's Boy, or pizza at Little Italy.

Place to post up and drink? Take your pick. If you're still in college, just bar hop on Clayton or if you have time, cruise over to the Terrapin Brewery. Don't want to be surrounded by students? That might take some work, but The Globe is generally at least a grad school type crowd and has a great beer selection.

How old are you? What kind of bars do you like?

Last Resort is probably the most obvious suggestion for food. I don't like it but truly everyone else I know does. Little Italy is good for late night drunk food but I think both Amici and Transmet have better pizza.

Looks like on Saturday from 11-2 Creature Comforts brewing is having their 1 year anniversary. I don't know the details but it looks like they'll be serving up a bunch of their beers for 25 dollars (for the glass). Creature Comforts is awesome so I'd definitely do this if you can (and like beer)

I never understood this. I'd rather be with kids than adults.

On point. There is a thread about Athens eats from about 2 weeks ago.

I was in Athens this past week and had a damn fine time even though it was a quick trip:

Saturday lunch - Last Resort: thought it was really good for the price. food and atmosphere felt more like a lunch spot so might not recommend for dinner

Saturday afternoon - Creature Comforts: fantastic brewery. by 3:00p it was slammed so considering the anniversary party I would get that on time or even early.

Saturday dinner - Branded Butcher: fantastic food and service. atmosphere was upbeat and had some finesse to it. careful though the price snuck up on me.

Sunday brunch - 5&10: cool restaurant in an old house. reminded me a lot of many New Orleans restaurants. food was creative and reasonably priced, but didn't blow me away by any means. could be just because I don't like brunch fare all that much. menu is ambitious and they do a relatively good job of executing it. keep in mind you can't drink until 1230p on Sundays

re: The Varsity - I've never been but the place looks like a dump and the clientele I saw exiting looked more like cattle than human beings. Seems to be more for the Cracker Barrel crowd.

28, looking for a place with some good food and preferably good (local?) beer selection.

Based on the wedding itinerary, looks like I'm going to have some time to kill both Friday and Saturday afternoon. The only person I know at this wedding is my girlfriend, who is also the maid of honor, so I may spend some time just solo bar hopping a bit looking for different beers.

I'm currently in Richmond, so we get a lot of the larger East Coast breweries (Sweetwater for example). Any other beers I need to check out, Terrapin?

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Went to Terrapin Saturday and had a great time. They had 9-10 beers on tap and for $10 you get a glass and wristband with 8 ticks. A half pour (more like 10-12 oz) was one tick and a full pour was 4 ticks. We were determined to get our money's worth and drank a little more than we intended. For $10 it was a ton of really good beer

Transmetropolitan used to be a great spot for pizza. Aside from that I got nothin', I pretty much survived on Barberito's burritos and Jimmy Johns when I was living there

Trappeze is a beer bar with good food. Because it's a beer snob bar it can occasionally be kind of douchey, but if you're a beer guy I don't think you'll be too bothered by it.

Trappeze is not too far from my hotel, might have to check it out.

I tell this to everyone that visits Athens, GO TO CALI N TITOS. The absolute BEST food for your money. Get a steak sandwich (lettuce, grilled onions and jalapenos, mayo) and bring a 6 pack (it's byob) and thank me later.

It's Twilight Weekend so downtown will be slammed. Terrapin and Creature Comforts for breweries. I like CC better just because it's downtown, normally not as packed, and I personally like their beers more. Last Resort, 5&10, Seabear, and Trappeze for dinner. Amici (best wings I've ever had and good pizza), Pulaski Heights BBQ, Clocked, and East West Bistro are also good choices. Momma's Boy and White Tiger Gourmet for hangover food. As far as bars, there's too many to name but my favorites are Blue Sky, Allgood, Highwire, Sister Louisa's, and Cutter's.

I looked it up. The whole thing does look pretty cool. Activities Friday and all day Saturday.

Looks like rain though.

Just beware of that PIECE OF shite gas station next door that doesn't sell beer (or didn't when I was there). What kind of convenience store next door to a BYOB restaurant doesn't sell beer.
