Potential Mid-round OLB.

This player was mentioned by Adono recently but I wanted to single him out because he seems like a ridiculous steal.
Davis Tull
What do you guys think about this guy? Can be a steal I think with one of our 3rd round selections. Has very good numbers and scouting reports say he's relentless. Athletic numbers are top of the charts with very good drive and motor but nobody is talking about him.
6'2" and 246lbs
Combine: 26 reps, 42.5" vertical (Tied combine linebacker record), 132" Broad Jump (Better than Vic Beasley and Randy Gregory, second at the combine only to Dupree)
Pro Day Results
40-yard dash: 4.57 seconds

Overview
Three-time Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year (2012, 2013, 2014). First-Team FCS All-American as a senior with 10.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss. As a junior, was named First-Team FCS All-American with 9 sacks and 15 tackles for loss while posting a 4.0 GPA during the fall. In 2012, became first SoCon sophomore to be selected as SoCon Defensive Player of the Year since Dallas Cowboys 1997 third-round pick Dexter Coakley. Set single-season UTC sack record with 12.5 and was fourth in the nation with 19 tackles for loss. Made the SoCon All-Freshman team, starting all 11 games at defensive end. Former walk-on. Colleges stopped recruiting Tull after he broke his femur in the second game of his senior season and missed the rest of the year. Was an Honor Society member at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Analysis
Strengths Four-year starter. Outstanding production and works as hard from snap to snap as any defensive lineman in this draft. Plays stronger than his listed weight. Stays square against the run and leverages his run gaps. Plus hand-eye coordination. Has what scouts call "snap-winning" hand usage against run or pass. Relentless in pursuit. Frenetic off snap, giving tackles darting movement inside and out. Has power and toughness to set the edge and turn plays back inside. Leverage rusher who can dip shoulder and turn corner as well as bull-rush weaker tackles. Has lightning-quick spin move but needs to sharpen technique when using it. Held his own against Tennessee this year with a sack and two tackles for loss.
Weaknesses
Marginal upfield burst by NFL standards. Needs to instill more fear around the edge to open up room for his inside moves. Short arms. Long tackles can get to his chest and divert his rush track. Racked up gaudy stats against inferior competition. Average athlete with average size. Won with great hands and effort, but athletic NFL tackles could stymie those traits. Too small to play defensive end and has limited experience standing up.
Draft Projection Round 3 or 4
NFL Comparison Dan Skuta
Bottom Line
Tull uses smarts, skill and toughness to dominate his level of competition. Tull has the athleticism to play outside linebacker in an odd front and his relentless nature and ability to outplay expectations could make him an NFL surprise.

Sounds like he's a great athlete and would be a good pick in a middle round. What's his height/weight?

Tull would be a great option with one of our thirds (preferably 78) if we passed on the position earlier in the draft.

Yea, Tull is worth a look. I brought his name up last week.
You sure did dude. Credited in OP.

That's no big deal. The guy deserves some attention; I'd love to see him in black & gold.
ETA: I also like P. Dawson. He's another "real" football player.

Is he the next Chase Thomas that the board falls in love with?

Tull just seems like he is being highly undervalued. High motor along with top tier athletic ability? I'm in! Hopefully that means we get him later and get a steal. Yeah I agree about Dawson. Doesn't have the athletic numbers that Tull does though, but still a damn good football player.

No. Chase had nowhere near the athletic ability this guy does. I posted his combine and Pro Day numbers in the OP. Maybe I should take the picture off to actually get people to really pay attention.
ETA: Picture removed. Sad I had to do that so that this guy doesn't get automatically labeled even though the numbers are all posted.

Everyone is holding Dawson's one time 4.93/40 as the Holy Grail...and I don't believe it. He ran a lot faster in his Pro Day (4.57, I believe).
Even if folks want to totally discount Pro Day numbers, the guy would not have been as successful on the field covering backs out the backfield and WRs on quick slants as he was if he was that slow.
If there's one thing I've come to realize it's that straight 40 times doesn't mean crap and really isn't a true indicator if a guy can play the game.
In any event, I'd pick Tull over Dawson if I had to make a choice. I say pick both of them with the 2 3rd rounders.

Mike Hull is also a good 3rd-4th round ILB.

You leave that part out and then go off like I totally disregarded the guy.

My comments weren't really pointed to you. Every time Dawson's name comes up, there are a ton of folks on here who blow him off just because of that one 40 time.

It isn't just him dude. Lots of good players are overlooked because of "measurables".

Hope he's the next Sunseri who most hated.

If anything Sunseri is overrated on here despite having shown nothing more than above average special teams play so far.

I saw the numbers. He plays the same position, is a similar size, his 40 time is similar(a little faster) and he's a projected mid round pick. That plus the fact that he has been posted about several times on here is the similarity I'm talking about. I haven't watched him play or anything, so I really don't know about him as a football player. But my comparison (while shallow) is still valid.

David Tull

For the record, I really liked Chase coming out and think he is a really good player. I wish he could have made the team. Having said that, I think Tull has Chase's drive and determination with elite athleticism added to it.
