No they wouldn't. The LDS Church runs one of the largest private welfare programs in the world. You might be confusing them with the fundamentalist sects who cast out boys to free up girls for the elders.

I assume the show actually shows respect to Mormons despite a lot of mocking. True or false?

mormons do a lot it seems

I found this link after reading your post. Long but interesting.

quote:

When the multimillion-dollar Teton Dam disaster struck Idaho in 1976, a force of 45,000 Latter-day Saints was deployed almost overnight to provide emergency relief. When Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, Mormon relief trucks arrived before the National Guard was even allowing relief through. Massive oil spills in South Korea in late 2007 found hundreds of volunteers handling the disaster with plans, supplies and manpower within days. The 2010 Haitian earthquake catastrophe was met immediately with 160,000 pounds of food and emergency resources, and a month later, when a devastating earthquake hit Chile, an airlift of tents, tarps, supplies and even diapers was quickly deployed.

While the Church’s humanitarian aid efforts and its significant financial donations may be known to some, few realize that they represent only a fraction of the costs and resources involved with carrying out these initiatives. Furthermore, it may not be well known that the Church sponsors many other relief programs, including extensive welfare, vocational, rehabilitative, counseling and other services. These services include millions of hours donated by Latter-day Saint doctors, nurses and other Church members each year. Thousands of professionals and volunteers give freely of their time and means to those in need, with no expectation of praise, publicity or reward.

I think it mimics what those of us who know Mormons IRL think (and what the Mormon South Park episode said): Mormons believe some bizarre stuff but they're nice, well-meaning and principled people.

I personally found the play distasteful. Mormon lifestyle (and any lifestyle that revolves around legitimate spirituality) should not be mocked.

all religion should be fair game to be mocked. lol

hey frickwit learn to read, reading comprehension is a good thing. you immediately just assumed I was inferring the violence of fundamentalist Islam is like Mormons...dumbass.

no where did I compare them...I just posted that they are both crazy religions, Islam being a special kind of stupid and Mormonism just behind that.

For the record, Arkansian trumps all other forms of stupidity.

The point (correctly made several times here) is that belief in Mormonism is a suspension of rational empirical logic, JUST LIKE believing in a virgin who is capable of having a baby without a male human father or a person being dead and put in a tomb for three days and then being resurrected into some new type of incorrigible body and floating off into space to live forever. (Mainline Christianity)

THAT'S what is being compared. Please try harder to stay with the group.

Why the abject hatred? Did some LDS guy steal your French Fries and/or boyfriend at some point?

My god, you reinforce the stereotype that all folks from Arkansas are dim.

Mormons are the nicest, most peaceful, most healthy and stable people in the country. I find it odd that people think they are worthy of scorn and embarrassment.

this can't be for real
