Is it really unfair? I have no doubts that they are great people.

It's a comedy. It's not a personal attack or movement to ban their religion, take away their rights, etc.

Just a comedy. Once you start to take various groups of people and say they are "off limits" from being mocked, then you really are getting rid of comedy completely. If we only mocked "bad people or groups" as you suggested, it wouldn't really be funny anymore. It would be just mean.

Why don't we make musicals that make fun of fricked up communities and fricked up ethnic groups?

Weird, tragic times we live in.

If this country as 80% mormon, we would have no poverty, no broken families, no crime, and we wouldn't have people who are different people on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

I'm not Mormon and I want to see the play, but you are right. This nation would be an economic and military powerhouse beyond comprehension if 80% of our country acted like most Mormon's do on a daily basis. The question would be if Mormons would act like that if Mormons were 80% of the nation instead of 2%. America was at it's peak in the 1950's protestant Christian society, but then protestants (and all Christians) slowly morphed into the society we have today.

This is true. We would have to spend a mere fraction of what we do now on incarceration and general welfare. Sounds real nice.

because the are gullible enough to believe a conman who wanted to legitimize his authority to get his swerve on with multiple women is a prophet who wrote his 18th century book using 17th century English....

Mormonism is ludicrous, anyone who follows it deserves ridicule and scorn. They rate right up there with Islam in my wtf scale of religious wackjobs.

Well obviously not for all people, but in terms of America's power in relation to the rest of the world, 1950's America was pretty high on the list. Hard work, morality, etc were all priorities of that society. Imagine if that were still the case today with our current potential.

Lol. Trey and Matt have trashed pretty much every ethnic and religious group on Southpark. They even did an episode where a Mormon family moves to Southpark and they are the nicest people ever, even when everyone else treats them like shite

What they believe in terms of who Joseph Smith was has little to nothing to do with the qualities we are talking about that Mormon's possess. It's how they live their daily lives that makes them stand out: hard work, family, charity, humility, and service.

Mostly because the rest of the industrialized world was laying in ruins due to 40 years of the most destructive warfare the world had ever known.

All religions have elements of supernatural beliefs that sound crazy to non-believers. The idea that Jesus could rise into the sky after being dead 3 days would sound absolutely nuts to a Hindu. Try convincing people at a majority black evangelical church that eating pork is a sin and see how that goes. Asking Mother Mary to intervene on your behalf is ludicrous to a protestant. A cracker and wine literally become the body and blood of Christ? Yea a Baptist is going to think that is silly.

Now please compare Mormon society to Muslim society and lets see which one you would rather live in.

(my emphasis)

EDIT: The moral of this is to judge religious adherents by what they do and who they are, not what they believe.

I think the reason they attack Mormans and Scientologists is because of the "I just made this up" aspect of the religions. All religion is going to appear that way from a non-believer. But most religions are based from events very very long ago and it is just as much a culture as it is a belief. These two religions started up pretty recently with some less than believable back stories. Don't think they are trying to attack the people, just what they go door to door preaching. Although there does not seem to be anything bad coming from the Mormon religion now, religions can be dangerous when people are willing to blindly follow. I think they just like to show the absurdity of it.
