I'm not a huge fan of plays or musicals, but this one was hilarious. Even someone who doesn't like theatre at all could enjoy this. I left wondering how terrified Matt Stone and Trey Parker were when this was first viewed. It's very out there and different from what the critics would normally see and they had to be petrified for if they would take to it well.

I also wonder how the Mormons reacted to this? Or even super religious people/groups as it does subtly mock all religion throughout, not simply Mormons.

Saw it on Broadway. Best time in a theater I've ever had. Immediately walked out and bought the soundtrack.

Seen it 3 times, in Nola once and Broadway twice. I'll be seeing it again when it comes back to nola in a few months.

I as well bought the soundtrack as soon as i walked out the theater the first time.

It is one of the funniest things I've ever seen and Trey Parker is my favorite comedic mind of all time.

Mel Brooks was my favorite pretty much my entire life until BoM came out. That set Parker above him.

Loved it! Saw it in NYC and wanted to go see it when it was in New Orleans.

Mormons are the nicest, most peaceful, most healthy and stable people in the country. I find it odd that people think they are worthy of scorn and embarrassment.

Why don't we make musicals that make fun of fricked up communities and fricked up ethnic groups?

Weird, tragic times we live in.

If this country as 80% mormon, we would have no poverty, no broken families, no crime, and we wouldn't have people who are different people on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Saw it in Houston. Hilarious. Made me cringe a few times, but that's my favorite type of comedy.

Mormons were posted outside the theatre handing out fliers, in seemingly good spirit. They took it pretty well in general I think.

My thoughts were they wanted to make fun of religion. But you can't make a popular play in today's world that mocks Christianity. It would be polarizing at best. Mormon is an easy religion to undermine and mock in a very simple way.

That's kind of why I felt they did it.

Well this very play does also make fun of poverty and war riddled African communities (which I'd consider "fricked up"). So does that make it better?

Let me guess, you haven't seen the play but feel like chiming in anyway?

The play is pretty light hearted and really isn't intended as an attack on Mormons per se.

It's one of two plays I actually liked a lot. Spamalot was a bit better IMO but I really enjoy almost everything that the South Park guys do. They've largely taken over where Monty Python left off. Just great satire.

But Mormons are DOING IT RIGHT. Just look at how high Utah ranks on almost all quality of life indicators.

It is unfair to attack them, and I am lucky I live in an area that high a high concentration of them.

The play is pretty light hearted and really isn't intended as an attack on Mormons per se.

Mormons were chosen to be the object of satire because Mormons are the least likely to raise hell in protest, which says a lot about how awesome they are as a group.

I personally found the play distasteful. Mormon lifestyle (and any lifestyle that revolves around legitimate spirituality) should not be mocked.
