Worth a read HERE

good insight into how little or ineffectively he was used there...

quote:

How little has Spiller been used? LeSean McCoy is 11 months younger than Spiller but has 897 more touches in his career (1,808 to 911) than Spiller. In fact, McCoy has more touches than Jackson (1,673), the NFL's oldest running back.

rotoworld summary-
Spiller was dreadfully mis-utilized by the post-Chan Gailey Bills. As opposed to prioritizing cash flow, Spiller went to the team he viewed could best put his talents to use. "To his agent’s credit, they looked at it from a ‘how he was going to be used’ standpoint, the system, the offense and wanting to be a part of it," Payton explained. "And we feel the same way." Payton called Spiller's highlight reel "unbelievable" on screens and sweeps. "When you watch his film you think of a lot of things he can do." Spiller should set a career high in catches with the Saints.

getting to know this guy, when yer in Buffalo you kinda disappear...

First name Clifford, some family background...

Spiller was raised in tiny, rural Lake Butler, Fla., along with two siblings by his mother, Patricia Watkins, and his stepfather.

Some 375 miles south, the 44-year-old Clifford has driven sanitation trucks for Dade County for 20 years.

Watkins and Clifford met while participating in the government-sponsored Job Corps training program, and C.J. was born shortly thereafter in 1987.

Clifford said he tried talking Watkins into moving with him to Miami, but given her roots in Union County, she declined, and they broke up.

C.J. said Clifford stayed in touch and made the six-hour drive north occasionally to visit, but he viewed his father more as a distant relative.

That changed during Spiller’s junior year of high school, when he felt compelled to reach out and connect further with his namesake.

“Growing up with a faith background, you’re supposed to honor your mother and father,” Spiller said. “And I wanted to get to know him and know what he was about.

“Unfortunately some guys go through life never knowing their father. I didn’t want to be that guy.”

how is that good insight? He was used less than someone who has the most touches in the league?

That's like saying Brees is little or ineffectively used because someone else has more pass attempts?

I expect he'll do well in New Orleans

more to me like saying if you used Brees in a predominantly deep ball attack with little short game. He's an explosive in space guy that was not utilized properly or fully.

In 3 seasons that he was in each game he averaged 38 catches. Without blinking and without injury I project a minimum of 50 catches. Likely much closer to Sproles average of 77 catches a year IMO.

20 to 40 more catches @ his meager 7.6ypc in Buffalo= another 160 to 320 total yards. That's just receiving.

I'm really excited to see what he can do in this offense. The only thing I'm worried about is him staying healthy.

He's gonna go from sitting in the garage as a weekend driver to being a daily driver. Payton will put some miles on him and break him in.

Maybe in the passing game, with Ingram healthy, he prob won't get more than 8 carries in games.

One man's opinion, he will make everyone forget Darren Sproles before he is done in NOLA.

I think this is a little too pessimistic. I think that splitting carries between them 60-40 is realistic. Spiller's too dynamic to use 8 times or fewer each game. Definitely gonna be big in the passing game, as well.

Triplett's forecast-

Ingram 240 touches (950-1,000 rushing yards)

Spiller 150 touches (400-plus rushing yards, 500-plus receiving yards)

Robinson 90 touches (350-400 rushing yards)

If he stay healthy and good blocking, he could hit 1k receiving. I think that highly of his potential.

Spiller is closer to Cooks in moves and game than he is to Robinson or Ingram. Some interesting sets of RBs and WRs to be presented to opposing defenses. It's exciting to think about.

reminds me of Reggie a lot. With the loss of Pierre*** I would put CJ down for a minimum of 60 catches. How bout his comments? "Payton knows how to get the ball to the backs..."

***
I haven't written much cuz it is still kinda painful for me. That is, who I will tell people was the greatest screen pass back not only for the Saints (1st SB TD) but perhaps the best in the business.

unfortunately, as a guy thats followed most of his career (originally from buffalo area).... those are the two biggest issues.

they did use him terribly under marrone though. No investment in the interior line and then ran the same play call right behind their guards (ranked among the lowest in the league) over and over again.

under chan gailey they did great getting him in space and he had that monster year.... but it seemed chan never trusted him with the complexity of the game (single digit wonderlic) so he never got the full workload. if the mental side comes together and he stays healthy the guy is INCREDIBLE in space though.

id often compare spiller/fred jackson to the reggie/pierre pairing. was amazed marrone didnt seem to ever figure out how to use them, but each had injury trouble.

Not only was the best screen back I've ever seen, he was extremely proficient at running the ball even with his minimal touches. He's the slipperiest, toughest guy I've seen when it comes to YAC/contact and he was one of the best all around backs in the league no one in the media ever talked about.

He's in the discussion for best screen back of all time...but I'd go Marshall Faulk, personally. Charles in KC is a good pick as well.

On a side note...Marshall Faulk is from Carencro and wanted to go to LSU. They told him that he wasn't a RB and that DB was his future. Then he signed with San Diego State and well...you know the rest of the story. LSU also didn't offer Ed Reed out of Destrehan...so he went to Miami.
