I've got the Costa Jose Wejebe glasses with 580 lenses. The beat the shite out of my Ray Ban Wayfarers as far as lens quality. Costa doesn't make very many frames that look normal on my head, but these are okay. They feel sturdier than a 15 dollar pair and the really do help (not completely block, but help) with glare on the water. Plus if you go with an amber lens with green mirror, you get much better vision into the water when inshore.

Take a look at native I just picked up a pair with and have really enjoyed them. I still find myself using my costa hammerheads for fishing but would have no problem using the natives.

Inshore or near shore Costa 580G with an amber base green mirror lenses, if offshore blue lens.
Also have tried Smith Optics with Chroma Pop lenses and was impressed.
I went a very long time thinking I could get by with $50 glasses, when I got into true sight fishing (not casting at tales and wakes, but at the fish 2 foot down) I changed my stance very quickly. I bring 2 pair of amber based Coasta's with every trip. Those that think otherwise have put my spare pair of glasses on and it happens to them... their mind changes quickly.
But it you don't HAVE to see into the water I'm not sure you'll notice other than slightly crisper colors.
If you simply want them for everyday driving or simply cruising on the party barge get the cheaper ones.

Having good polarized glasses helps tremendously when billfishing. If you want to knock some glare off of dirty water, I think cheap lenses would be fine.

Costas are alright, but Maui Jims are awesome.

I'm a cheap SOB. After at least 5 pair of $10 sunglasses I finally spent $30 for a pair. Fished with a guide who wore a pair of those expensive Costas. He could see fish everywhere. I said, "What fish?" Said to myself, "Self, I would give $100 for a pair of dem Costas. My glasses were cr_p. Well, found out they cost more than $100 but got them anyway. After about 10 years I still have those glasses. Costa had to replace my original Pescadors with another model after the Pescadors broke in half. I CANNOT live without my Costas. And I can see fish.

Costa and Ray ban are good glasses. Luxoticca is a scam.

I used to wear Oakleys and some cheapies. Then I got a pair of those magnetic polarized clip ons with a Rx pair of regular glasses. I would always end up leaving them in my desk or in my truck. Finally bought a pair of MJ Rx glasses and a few years later my dad ordered me a pair of Costa Rx with glass lenses. They're both awesome. And have lasted about 7 and 5 years so far.

You're absolutely right. I meant to put Maui Jim and got side tracked.

On May 1st, I will retire my Maui Jim Kapalua's after ten years of everyday use.
These sunglasses have been through hell and back, hundreds of fishing/hunting trips, untold amount of man hours working outside, dozens of slam pieces, they did not falter... A little beat up, yes... But never broken.
I can sit here and tell you Maui Jim are the best sunglasses in the world for the money.
I am considering buying a spare pair just to have on hand, I love them that much. They have also saved my eyes numerous times from being punctured from numerous objects.
Best. Ever.

I have some questions:
Like a bottle of wine, I couldn't tell you the difference between a $5 pair and a $15 pair.
1. But getting into the $30 -$50 range, is there a difference in manufacturing of the lens ?
2. Then going to the $100 to $200 range....is it name only that makes one buy a pair of shades? Or are the Lenses going to give you a better look into the water?
I am asking about the lens only....not comfort/fit/material of frames.
If the lens aren't optical grade lens, I wouldn't pay over $30 for em.
