Honestly do people think these guys are good.... Or at least good enough to be inducted into the rock n roll HOF. Can't believe these guys are getting over much more deserving bands this weekend.

They're one of those bands from the 90's that managed to stay relevant long enough that people thought they had to be considered. They were on a pretty crazy run from around 1996-2004, but have stagnated since American Idiot. They were never my favorite, but there's some quality stuff in their catalog. I don't think they're deserving (at least not yet), but the Hall of Fame is all politics anyways.

I think it's been a while since they have made good music, probably since American Idiot, but I really loved listening to them in the 90s. Overall, I greatly enjoy their music, at least their best stuff.

I still get nostalgic over some of their earlier stuff. The first couple of albums were really solid actual punk rock. They really hit the spot for a sexually frustrated pubescent teen boy. I guess around Warning and Nimrod is when they started to fall off though there are some songs off of those albumms that I still like. They really started to suck bad around the time that American Idiot came out. I haven't listened to anything after that.

In the grand scheme of things they probably aren't any great shakes, but the rock n roll hall of fame is bull shite anyway.

Dookie is a masterpiece and one of the best albums of the 90s, period. Plus, it's got the perfect album cover for getting really stoned and spending an hour trying to find all the different shite....literally.....

Yeah. Dookie is probably one of the iconic albums of the 90's. Songs on that album, Longview, basket case, when I come around, welcome to paradise, etc. are some of the biggest songs I think of when I think of the time period.

I think they could be good enough to make the HOF one day as rock begins to slowly die

I think people lost sight of this in light of how douchey/preachy/political they got in their later years.

I know what you mean but they are more incorporating politics in their music than being anti establishment

Why would they want to be inducted? Surely those 3 butt stewards would want to talk badly about anything mainstream (except themselves).

Their politics comes accross as whiny. I never got any really deep or interesting statements out of it. Their stuff just wasn't thought provoking. Just a tired "America sucks" sort of routine. Someone like Dylan or Lennon did a good job of dealing with politics in music.

Also the entire shift seemed like more of a rebranding than anything really genuine. Sort of like they just "sold out." They fell into that pop punk emo thing that was popular at the time complete with a big change in style with the eye liner and stuff. Maybe I'm just being one of those fans that complains when a band develops. I don't really like that attitude of people who were always worried about "selling out." It seems like a shallow position, and I don't want to be there. I also was probably just starting to get too old for that kind of thing around that age anyway.

They're not posers, but they just are not that very good.
