I'm excited for this one. I think it's going 7 personally, but with the Rockets getting that first round monkey off their back.

Did he really? Recently?

Carlisle said in an interview two days ago that he was confident Mark wouldn't be talking much this run.

I wouldn't consider Brewer as a guy with real playoff experience considering he's never won a series and has only been there 3 times, but yall do have 5 very solid contributors with great playoff experience. I'm hoping the Mavs can pull something off like last year against the Spurs where Carlisle was unbelievable and the Mavs played the Spurs the toughest of any opponent they faced.

Looks like the interview was the day after HOU beat them in DAL a couple weeks ago.

“[The biggest difference is] practice time. There’s no more predictable team than the Rockets. You know exactly what they’re gonna do,” he says. “But James Harden is so good. That’s what analytics have begot. Right? Predictability. If you know what the percentages are, in the playoffs, you have time to counter them. Whether you’re good enough to do it is another question. Because they are very talented, and James Harden, I think, is the MVP. Because that’s not a very good team over there.”

No, it's been a slow burn since game 6 last year.

Dallas is the better-coached team, and HOU is not without flaws.

I give the Mavs an outside shot if Harden fails to go apeshit in 3 games or more.

While Carlisle is clearly the better coach, I personally believe that McHale is a Top 15 coach, especially this year. I think he did a Top 5 job this year. And if someone gets butthurt by this post, I will be happy to lay out why I believe that when I have some more time later.

McHale has improved every single year in Houston.

Out of curiosity, who would that top 5 be?

I can agree he's top 15, but not one of the 5 best coaches in the postseason this year.

I think the top 5 coaches are pretty clearly Pop, Kerr, Budz, Carlisle and Stevens in some order. McHale is top 15, but we'll see if he's in Carlisle's league this series.

Bottom 5 are Scott, Wittman, Williams, Fisher, and Hollins IMO.

3 rookie coaches automatically boosted to the top of the list after one good/great season? Ok, I guess.

Why Stevens over Kidd? Spoelstra just eliminated b/c he's had Lebron? Are we really calling Kerr a better coach than SVG after 1 year considering the players each has? I'd probably take Stotts over Kerr at this exact moment to.

1 year does not make a great coach, though the job Bud has done is hard to argue with.

My Top 5 coaching jobs this year:

T1. Kerr
T1. Bud
3. McHale
4. Stevens
5. Pop

Now as a playoff coach, McHale hasn't proven it, but this season, he was unbelievable.

The Rockets finished with the 3rd best record in the NBA. Their second best player missed half the season, they had possibly the worst PG in the NBA, they had tons of new players coming in that had to gel with the team on the fly, they had countless injury problems, and the list goes on. I should also make a point that Howard's back-up was Joey Dorsey. The Rockets had to start Dorsey for tons of games. The guy is absolutely garbage.

I honestly think this was a nightmare season for many coaches, but lots of people didn't realize because McHale and Harden held it together so well. McHale has greatly improved Josh Smith this season, developed Motiejunas (who many people had given up on) into a very promising player (now out for the season), and the list goes on.

I see so many people put Stevens ahead of McHale, and he did great, and I think he has a higher ceiling than McHale. But McHale had every excuse not to be good this year. He really did. It's incredible to me that Houston won more games than last year.

Where are the 3 rookie coaches on there? Kidd is good, but he also benefits greatly from Sean Sweeney's defensive help. Brad Stevens' late game playcalling is the best in the league IMO. I know 1 year doesn't make a great Coach, but I think what Kerr has done and the basketball knowledge he has shows he will be outstanding for years to come. I think Stotts is very good, just not top 10. Same thing with Doc.

And Swagger, I'm really impressed with McHale and what he's done this season but I think he benefits greatly from having a guy who just takes over in close games in James Harden. I may move him up on my list after these playoffs, but as of now I have him as a top 10 coach on this season alone. Definitely way higher than where he was last year.
