Turns out he served as a gunner on a B-17 during WWII.

This may have been useful information a few days ago in my Jeopardy! thread. But now it's fricking worthless for another 362 days. Thanks a bunch, dick.

Yeah, I've read about a lot of stars who served in WWII. Had no idea about Roscoe though.

Was a Vietnam ERA vet. He was drafted and served two years in West Germany. Big difference between being a Vietnam Era Vet and a Vietnam Vet.

My brother and I grew up watching Dukes. Liked me some Rosco! As is, my brother is now a sheriff's deputy and I am the outlaw of the family.

More relevant to the article: There aren't many thespians these days that would sign up to fight in a war.

I'll take "People that won't be on Jeopardy!" for $1,000, Alex.

There's combat footage of Eddie Albert (Green Acres, Longest Yard)pulling wounded Marines out of the surf at Tarawa under Japanese fire while an officer in the USN.

I've heard that before. Was he tatted up like Popeye with anchors on his forearms?

I think you're right. I just Googled and half the sources say Vietnam vet and the other half say Vietnam ERA vet...probably means the latter.

I've head that's all just a myth. Seems like a similar story has also been going around about Cpt. Kangaroo being a sniper or something.

It's not true. There was a rumor going around about him and Capt Kangaroo. Internet folks are gullible.
