Former New England Patriots' star Aaron Hernandez nodded no as jurors in his Massachusetts trial found him guilty Wednesday of first degree murder, which carries a penalty of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Hernandez was also found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
He will be sentenced Wednesday morning.
As the verdict was read, the former standout tight end appeared upset but calm -- pursing his lips and taking a deep breath, as his lawyer James Sultan put his arm around him. He looked over to see his mother and fiancee weeping.

Why does anyone outside of the families affected give a shite?
Honestly, explain that shite to me.

Pretty much guarantee that Hernandez will not be the little spoon in the can.

What is the average cost to house an inmate per year?
For Fiscal Year 2014, the average cost per year to house an inmate in the Massachusetts DOC was $53,040.87.

Born: November 6, 1989 (age 25)
Conservative he dies incarcerated at 80 years old.
Without adjustments for inflation that's roughly $2.9 Million
Unlike the NFL, this is guaranteed, so perhaps this was all just a business move.

I have a hard time believing it costs $53,000 a year to house an inmate. A single person could live comfortably on that salary and that's even with taxes taken out.
I would think a more realistic number would be $10,000 - $12,000 per year.

Government run housing is probably much higher than privatized.

doesn't require massively expensive infrastructure, surveillance, free medical care, employees, blah, blah, etc. etc.

I guess it's just fun to tell the jokes. No one can actually believe that Hernandez is going to be raped in prison.

Maybe he and Lawrence Phillips can bunk together.

Because it's a crime against the citizens of Massachusetts, not just the victim and the victim's family. That's why the trial is called "State of Massachusetts v. Hernandez".
