there are kids that arent good enough to make D3 basketball teams that can shoot probably half of that in a row.
I don't think there is a single person on the planet.. not good enough for D3 ball.. who could make half that in a row.
ETA: I don't care about your videos of that old man shooting high school 3s. That's not even close to the same thing.

I'm with you--the casual fan has no clue just how good even the shittiest NBA player is. It's insane.
The people he played against were all maybe high school level , and at least a foot shorter than he is. And he still didn't look very good.

The good three point shooters make over 40% of their shots while being defended. Is it really a big stretch?
Uhmm.. yeah it's a really big stretch. 77\77 undefended and 40\100 while being defended is not comparable at all.
Mike Miller has a video out where he makes like 27\30 3 pointers and that was considered bad arse. He's a career 40% 3 pt shooter and shot 46% from 3 last season and he didn't come close to 77 in a row.
I don't believe for a second he hit 77 in a row and the fact that the only videos show him making only ~10 in a row kind of proves that it might be a slight over exaggeration
Do I believe he maybe hit 90\100? Yeah that's pretty possible. Doubt he made 77 in a row though

It's between him and Luke Walton for least athletic player active in the last 10 years.

They are world class athletes compared to us

It is an amazing feat because the likelihood is sooo low. Below are the likelihoods (roughly) of making a single shot translates to make 77 consecutive.
99% shooter ----- 46% chance of 77 in a row.
95% shooter ----- 1.9% chance of 77 in a row.
90% shooter ----- 0.03% chance of 77 in a row.
85% shooter ----- 0.0004% chance of 77 in a row.
99% shooter ----- 46% chance of 77 in a row.
95% shooter ----- 1.9% chance of 77 in a row.
90% shooter ----- 0.03% chance of 77 in a row.
85% shooter ----- 0.0004% chance of 77 in a row.

If there was a high school kid that could knock down 38 consecutive 3-pts, even if it was an ungaurded set shot and he had virtually no other basketball ability, some D3 school would pick him up. Probably a D2.

Thank you. First you would have to put a rough percentage on what Curry typically does in a situation like that to even begin to address how plausible it is. Some of the "I saw ____ make ____ in a row!!!!" claims being made are clearly exaggerated.

So he only shot 76% on uncontested threes after his streak? That's good but not that special for an NBA sharp shooter.

It's not like shooting 100 3s would make you tired or anything

people just don't realize how good NBA players are. in that clip i posted arenas hit 73 of 100...with one hand

stephenson hit like 75 or 76 out of 100
Agreed.
I know it isn't three pointers, but there is that video of MAR (Chris Jackson) from a couple years ago where he shoots 100+ jumpers and only misses like 2 or 3. But if he can do it, and he isn't in "league shape," then I don't think it's impossible that one of the best shooters in history can do it at practice with nobody in front of him.
I mean shite, I hit 11 in a row in flip flops with shite in my pockets a few weeks ago, and Steph Curry literally does that shite for a living. I'd say he's easily 7 times better at shooting than me.

quote:Well this is a pretty ridiculous statement. First of all, 76% would be quite impressive for a sharp shooter, but you've essentially disregarded 3/4 of an entire sample, and picked his worst 1/4 to get to 76%. That actually shows how impressive he was when you can cherry-pick the worst part of the sample and still get 76%.

That is amazing.
I saw a video a few weeks ago where Chris Jackson (Mahmud Abdul Rauf) just recently hit over 90 out of 100 3's or something crazy like that. In the video, he just hit shot after shot after shot. And, he's been out of the league for years.
One of the most amazing things is to go to an NBA game and get there early and watch the shoot around. Those guys are unbelievable. They don't miss.
That just goes to show how much pressure does to someone, because they will miss wide open 3's during the game and make them all in practice. It isn't really about the defense as much as it is about the pressure of the game situation.
The greats can shut the pressure down and still excel.
