Ya I was on varsity all 4 years in HS and was good back then because it was when I was around 23..but obviously nothing like those guys. The main reason I got to play was it was an expensive gym and most people were scared to play, it was rarely more than a one team wait. I went EVERY weekend because it was way cooler than ANYTHING else I could be doing. I mean you could show up and play with guys like Shaq and Magic any weekend! It was a dream come true at that age!

I have played against Mike Bibby, Magic, Shaq, Marion, Hornacek and a ton of other NBA and European pros, I used to play at the LA Sports Club most weekends in 02-04, and BY FAR the best I have seen on the pickup up courts was Marbury. I can't even explain how much better he was and it was like he wasn't even trying and all he took were shots in the lane. It must have been drugs or pressure that fricked him up in big games.

He's huge in china.

But why would Magic, Shaq, et al wanna play games with people who were just good HS players? Not a diss, but strikes me as weird.

Check out this old man school Curry at 3s (209 in a row)

Another example of shooting Curry could only dream of:

46 in a row:

I went to a Lakers practice for Valentines Day in like 2000 or 2001 and they did not miss. It didn't matter how much of a scrub the player was in games they did not miss when shooting around. I've seen tons of warm-ups and players hit most shots but in an empty building with like 50 people they did not miss. I never really realized how good NBA players were until that day. I mean I had seen them play, warm up and even played against NBA All-Stars but when you see them shoot in an empty gym it blows your mind.

Yep. Went to a raptors hornets game and remember being in awe because Morris Peterson literally didn't miss in warm ups. Another game Udonis Haslem was sooo money from 15 ft baseline.

But at the level of a good HS player. I just have no reason to believe that somebody who was merely a good HS player could meaningfully exist on a basketball court with Magic and Shaq, among others.

Oh I just re-read that. There would be like 15 people there playing each weekend, about 5-6 pros on average. It was a super fancy sports club and they would work out with their ptivate trainers and then go to the courts with the few rich black athletes and whoever else. Most of the other people there were Beverly Hills Jews. It was more of a post workout game for them but obviously their competitive spirits would kick in at times.

even shitty bigs hit well over 50%

Yup. Was watching a post-practice interview of a Spurs player awhile back, and got distracted because in the background you could see Chip Engelland working with Jeff Ayres on his shot. Ayres is a putrid "big" man, only seeing mop up duty in most cases, and his shot was just dripping wet from everywhere. Pullups, threes, stepbacks, fadeaways, jump hooks--you'd have thought it was Tim Duncan warming up back there.

I'm with you--the casual fan has no clue just how good even the shittiest NBA player is. It's insane.

Anyone have an actual real video of him hitting 77 in a row?

I've seen to links to videos that both only show him hitting ~10 in a row and being titled "OMG 77 IN A ROW!!! VIDEO EVIDENCE!!"

That's insane. I had a coach that could hit 20 some odd in a row pretty regular. Watching somebody do that is impressive. Seeinng somebody hit 77 in a row, from NBA range would probably be the most unbelievable thing I've ever see in my life.

If a shitty big can hit 50% in practice, he should be taking it when he gets it wide open at the top of the key as he is the last man up the court
Well, there's a reason Curry hit 94 out of 100 3s but "only" makes about 40% in games.

There was talk a while back of Birdman raining 3s in practice all the time, you want him shooting 3s from the top of the key?

The good three point shooters make over 40% of their shots while being defended. Is it really a big stretch?

I believe it. I was at a David Lipscomb camp back in the early 90s when Don Meyer really had things rolling. Every summer they would have a big college star come and put on a show. Grant Hill was there one year.

But the most impressive to me was Lang Wiseman. Totally average player at Tennessee but my god, I don't think he missed a shot the whole day. From all over the court. So a guy like Curry doing this makes sense.

Eta: Just looked him up. A Harvard Law grad to boot.

Bleacher Report has become infinitely better since they teamed up with NBC.

I'm not buying 77 NBA 3's in a row.
