Nadal is only -265 v. Ferrer.

I will be betting on that match.

wonder if Novak makes sure to pull out his A game against Cilic because of hte whole Serb/Croat thing. Like, I wonder if he secretly hates Cilic because he's Croatian.

Nothing else explains the savage beatings he gives poor Marin.

It's like Serena to Sharapova but instead of precious memories of time spent with Baby Fed, it's traumatic memories of hiding in a bunker because the Croatians were bombiing us again. Same idea, different emotional trigger.

That's all I got.

Looks like Milos retired, too bad. I wouldn't even have paid much attention to the Serb/Croat thing, but my boss is Croatian and hates Serbs as his dad was on the run for like a month back during the war. Nice to see Monfils playing well.

Have you seen the 30 for 30 "Once Brothers" about drazen Petrovic and Vlade Divac?

It's the best documentary I've ever seen. The hate from Croats to Serbs is very strong. it isn't as clear that Serbs harbor the same kind of ill will towards Croats as the vice versa, but then Djokovic once again goes out of his way to drop a bagel on Cilic and it makes me wonder.

I definitely have some money on Rafa at -265. Get it together King of Clay. Do your thing. Find your form.

That one was great. I actually think Novak is more like Vlade and wants try to be a good ambassador to squash the hate. But, it's gotta be tough to forget that the other side tried to wipe out your family.

I guess Rafa is really playing with a new racquet and not a paint job of the frame he has always had. The only definitive thing I could gather from what the nerds were saying on Talk Tennis who were breaking it down is that it's a more open string pattern to give him even more more spin and pop.

Some more thoughts on Rafa and his future in tennis.

1. His days of playing his defensive, scrambling, hyper-athletic style of tennis at an elite level are either numbered or over. I think he's lost a step and for his stle to work I believe he needed to have them all.

2. Rafa's game was just never going to lend itself to graceful aging.

3. I believe there is a way, however, that Nadal could extend his career a few years.

4. I would require a fairly drastic change in style.

5. I'm talking about Rafa becoming a serve and volleyer. Hear me out.

6. He's the best volleyer in the game.

7. If the man has ever missed an overhead in his life, I'm not certain I saw it happen.

8. He's a lefty, which gives him that built in Mcenroe-esque advantage of having that wide serve in the ad court.

9. His serve can be suspect, but can also be awesome at times (2010 US Open), and he would just have to serve like he did then. I actually don't think this is as big a problem as it may sound. He can serve fasts if he makes himself serve fast.

10. I can imagine the scenario now. Uncle Toni secretly gets in contact with John Mcenroe and gets him to covertly fly into Mallorca and act as a consultant in an intense 5 week serve and volley training camp. Totally top secret.

11. First of all, that's like the coolest thing I've ever thought of.

12. Second of all, it might actually work. The biggest obstacle would be weather the style was consistent with Nadals' worldview enough so that he stuck with it no matter what. I'm not sure he would stick with it. I think his style might be too ingrained for a switch to serve and volleying to ever be pursied in earnest.

it' d be cool though. And I think it would extend his career 3-4 years.

I don't see it as a big deal. They say that if you give Federer a racquet that's strung even a pound too heavy or too light, he'll know immediately and he's very particular that all his racquets feel a certain way.

They also say that Rafa will play with any stick you hand him without complaint. It's funny that he's particular about the placement of water bottles and the picking of his butt, is good to go with whatever racquet.

They further say that you could go to Wal mart and buy a 30 dollaar racquet and give it to Serena and she wouldn't even care. She'd play with it and it wouldn't bother her a bit.

Djoker v Nadal about to start. I like Djoker in this match. See close first set, then Djoker pulling away in 2nd.

6-3, 6-3, but it was a great match. The game at 3 all in the first set was one of the best I have ever seen, and a couple of them in the middle of the second weren't far behind. I think in one game, Novak had three backhand crosscourt stab retrieval winners of Rafa drop shots. Rafa had a handful of shots in this match that had Novak shaking his head, and I thought Rafa was about to break his will, but Novak hung tough. I am still not convinced Novak can do this for five hours on clay. I think Rafa has a lot of positives to take away from this match. He just sprayed the ball a bit too much at times.

You can't argue with the results, but I felt like Novak should come in more when he had Nadal way behind the court like Isner did the other day. He did employ the drop shot a lot to counter the positioning. Novak v. Berdych tomorrow in the finals.

So by tomorrow Novak will have won the Aussie Open and all three Masters tournaments this year. Has this happened before?

Edit: it looks like he is the first (in the open era at least) to win the first 3 Masters. LINK
