Why isn't our student section on the side of the court like it used to be, instead of behind the goal?

I know this has been discussed on here before, but it just seems so obvious that the PMAC was much louder and excited back then.

Because they were taking up space (and not coming to games) where the Admin could charge premium dollar.

That makes sense, but it would also make sense to move it back for this next season that we have coming up.

Yep. Great idea. I want you to be the one to call all the season ticket holders who have seats in that section that they have paid for for years now and tell them that after all the agony they have been through all these years with shitty teams, we are finally going to be really good….and we are moving you to behind the basket. Thanks for supporting Tiger Athletics.

Because the admin had their SG dolts try to sell the student body on the idea that they should be behind the goal so that the admin could reclaim those seats going as far back as 2008. Because this campaign coincided with a down period in LSU basketball, the students didn't care, so in 2010 when it happened, it was too late to mount any serious opposition to it. Good job SG. Pissing away premium seats for those you serve to do the bidding of the administration.

That's not really how this works.

If you think the LSU student government had any amount of say in this, then you seriously over-value the worth of the SGA. When the average student attendance is below 500 per game in a 3500 seat section, what do you think the administration is going to do? The students got those seats back in the day because they used them. When they stopped using them, they lost them. Pretty simple.

They stopped coming to games when the team started tanking, once football rose to power under Saban and the schedule under Brady went to a pitiful non conference no one showed up until conference play for hoops.

They could sell those seats for premium and add taf fees instead of giving to students for free.

Read it again. I didn't say they had a "say." I said the administration dispatched their SG dolts to sell it to the students. In conjunction with this effort, they made shirts, they "hired" students to lead the section organization efforts, they had a naming contest. In whose interest would it be to gin up support for moving the student section to a shittier place? Especially after a disastrous move to add TAF fees to basketball after the 2008 season. The only reason the SG was involved in that effort is because at the time they were a puppet for the administration.

I mean, who puts a student section behind the goals anyway?

The Lady Raiders in that final pic look a little masculine.

Yep. I remember going to an LSU game as a student in the mid-90s but a year or two after LSU's last NCAA tourney appearance of the decade (1993). Got there right around tipoff and had to sit about a row or two from the top of the arena in the student section for a Saturday night game. A couple of years later, and I probably would have gotten a seat in the middle of the bottom row.

The students packed the house every game in 2009. It's not our fault Trent sucked balls and the team sucked in 2010 forcing the move.

2009 was a great season. One of my faves.

We gave UNC a hell of a game.

There are tons of schools with student sections behind the goal FWIW

Just need students to get excited and pack the place and it won't matter where they are.

Our student section is way further away from the court compared to those schools.

The layout of the PMAC is completely terrible in that respect... I wish they'd basically do away with the lower walkway and move the seats way closer to the court

The SGA gets trumped over by the admin on anything they object to. When I went to school there, it seemed like they would always be unified against a new technology fee or a new Union refurbishing fee, and the admin would just laugh at them and put it in tuition anyway. They have no real say on seat relocations in the PMAC or Tiger Stadium, despite anybody feeling like they actually might.
