When I'm a tourist, I irrationally and hypocritically hate other tourists for this reason

Sistine Chapel was underwhelming due to being crammed in there with a couple hundred sweaty tourists talking, and then every now and then a bunch of sshhhh's trying to quiet everybody.

When traveling to popular sights the trick is simple, wake up early and get out early. Photographers do this not only to stay away from crowds, but the lighting is also best for photos. When I was in rome a few summers ago I made it to St. Peter's Square early enough to watch the sun rise. Not only did I get great shots and didn't have to deal with crowds, it was a friggin awesome experience. I try to do this at least once every trip I take

A lot of this can be avoided even during some high times by strategically hitting the location at odd times, not going with a huge bus tour, etc.

But at some point there is going to be a crowd.

I'm going to see Angkor Wat this December. Apparently everybody crowds Sunrise but I'll just try Sunset

I did hit the Taj Mahal on some holiday though, so THAT was crowded. The great part was foreigners like me had zero wait to get into the complex, also off season. The poor Indians were packed like cattle. But my line was between the female and male lines, and it was like going through the tunnel of a football game. It was awesome.

I find it problematic that the older I get the less I want to be around anyone other than my family.

Is it just me?
