Anyone have homeowners insurance (or any kind of insurance really) with them? I just got a quote and the premium as low as I've gotten and the hurricane deductible is only $1,000. I did some research on the company and I see that they just recently moved into the LA market, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any personal experience with them?

I don't see them in the dept of insurance directory.

I also did an agent locator and didn't find anything In Louisiana.

You get a quote direct or via an agent? I will double check in the morning.

Biggest key is to make sure you are on admitted paper. That means you have protection from the guarantee fund in case of carrier insolvency

I had a quote from them. Pretty sure they are non-admitted. Wound up going with Chubb. My deductible is high though but I have a lot of coverage.

If I am doing it right, it looks like they are an admitted carrier on the state's website. I searched the company's NAIC number and found the link below. The actual full name of the company is United Property and Casualty Insurance. NAIC number is 10969.

ok... now i have it. UPC just bought family security.

LINK

so here is the deal. they look like they have a very decent rating but they are aggressively collecting cat exposed properties throughout the coast trying to make a lot of money.

As admitted paper you have the protection of the LA guarantee fund. That fund is flush with cash. Just make 100% sure they are not writing on non some non admitted paper they own but the letterhead shows the parent company. Unlikely but double check the issuing carrier.

So feel free to use them. I would say this however, these companies will pull out of the market on a whim if/after they make what they are trying to make or they take a few losses. So if you have a company with a longer history in the state, i would certainly give them consideration as well if the dollars are close.

but the biggest answer you needed was that they ARE admitted paper and ARE participants in the guarantee fund based on the information you provided

Seaward, what did you decide to do? I am also looking into using UPC.

I just got an HO policy with them. Yes they may pull out in five years but I didn't really have a choice as my old insurer raised my rates by almost $2000 a year, and everyone else was much higher. Martin Insurance Agency in NOLA can quote you.
