Mars has liquid water just below its surface, according to new measurements by Nasa’s Curiosity rover. Until now, scientists had thought that conditions on the red planet were too cold and arid for liquid water to exist, although there were known to be deposits of ice. Prof Andrew Coates, head of planetary science at the Mullard Space, said: “The evidence so far is that any water would be in the form of permafrost. It’s the first time we’ve had evidence of liquid water there now.”

To see one thing before I die. Life on another planet.

And not just microscopic organisms, but I'd accept that even.

Is correct.

Water is water, no matter what state it is in.

I heard the discovery revealed the water was not only liquid, but it was also found to be wet!

If there is liquid water confirmed on (or near) the surface, that greatly amps up the chance there are unique Martian life forms, even if only at the microscopic level - it will be the most revolutionary scientific discovery to date.
