So I have a bit of a quandary. My son is 23 and about to leave for law school in Arizona. Me and my wife want to get him a new vehicle due to the current one getting some hefty miles. I was thinking about 2011 Toyota Land cruiser for around 45k, but here's where the problem arises. I have a 2014 Mercedes Gl450 that I want to get rid of for a Mercedes Sedan. I went to trade it in, they offered 46k. So I proposed to the wife to just give the Gl450 to my son and I can go get the sedan. Rather than stick with the Benz SUV and going out and buying a cruiser. She said that it would absurd to give a 23 year old that vehicle and that people would look at him as a pompous, rich spoiled kid who doesn't respect money. This is completely opposite of this humble kid and I do not want to cripple his experience in school by giving him a vehicle that people will despise. So the question is, will people really resent him for driving a 80k Benz over a 80k Toyota? Of course I am referring to MSRP, not the Used value. What to do?

He's going to Zona where lots of rich kids go to school. You want him to get top flight hot pussy or the retreads?

White people problems.

Send him in a 2005 Accord to teach him humility with dependability. And he'll appreciate a nice car later.

He's in law school. People are already going to assume that he's "a pompous, rich spoiled kid who doesn't respect money". Giving him a Benz will only enhance that perception

If you dont want him to look spoiled, then don't buy your grown arse man son a car at all... And if you do, make it a camry or some other sub 20k used 4 door sedan...

That's what I was thinking as well. Other than that, this was average work.

I feel for you. I had this same problem, but it was a new Ferrari F12 vs my 3 year old Gumpert Apollo.
With the Ferrari, he'd be viewed as a spoiled Affliction wearing Guido.
With the Gumpert, he'd be viewed as a rich ex-nazi's kid.
