Concerning Pirates of the Caribbean...go back and listen to the scores for other Michael Bay movies. They are very similar. The Rock in particular while watching the car chase sounds almost identical to the main PofC theme.

I can find vague similarities in almost all instrumental movie music.. What's you particular beef with PotC?

Jaws easily. The score/ theme is arguably more terrifying than the monster itself. You'd be hard pressed to find another piece of music from film that has left such a mark on our collective imagination.
Surprised no one has mentioned "Halloween" or "The Exorcist"..."Psycho" etc

The Red Violin is a worthy addition to this thread.

John Williams best work is Jurassic Park. And I love the Star Wars, Indy, Jaws, and a host of others. But Jurassic Park captures wonder and terror so perfectly when its called upon.
Zimmer has some great work, Inception and Dark Knight were fantastic. I really thought his best to date was Interstellar. He captured the theme of Time so well. Many of the cuts were written at 60bpm, driving like a clock. I mean, Lion King not withstanding.
You have to love Morricone's Good/Bad/Ugly score. The score is basically the dialogue through much of the movie.

Michael Giacchino also has some good ones. Mission Impossible 3 and Star Trek Reboot. LOST isn't a movie but it had an excellent score by him.
Also check out Hans Zimmer in his Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack.
I liked some of Cloud Atlas.
Daft Punk did an awesome job with Tron Legacy

Akira (OST goes for mad coin and has never been repressed. Be glad if you can find a quality bootleg)
Blade Runner (music for this film was light years ahead of its time)
Ghost Dog (not the soundtrack, japanese import score. This was some of Rzas best work in a while when it was released and he hasnt really touched it since.)
Jurassic Park
Suspiria (for the real heads they just reissued this amazing work by the band Goblin)
Drive

Miyazaki films have great music: Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle just to name a few.
Did you catch the double LP they released last year with various tracks from his films? Pick that up if you can still find it for a decent price.
