"Why the hate?'' Bonds said. "Why hate on something you're paying to see? I don't understand it. He's entertaining us.

"I wish life wasn't like that.''

Rodriguez's performance-enhancing drug use, of course, is the reason why his historic home run will be mostly ignored. Society frowns on cheaters and liars. Baseball punishes them. Fans scorn them.

Besides, this is the second time Rodriguez told the world he was clean, only to twice get ensnared in doping scandals.

First came a positive drug test in 2003, revealed years later, after which Rodriguez copped to using steroids only from 2001-2003. Then, the messy, complicated but ultimately damning Biogenesis scandal, when Rodriguez fought Major League Baseball with all his legal might, only to succumb to an arbitrator's ruling he be banned 162 games.

So be it, says Bonds.

"This guy is not running for president of the United States,'' Bonds said. "He's not running for commissioner. We're not running for political office. We're just ballplayers.

"We're not God. We're imperfect people. We're human beings.''

Nobody ever said it was the most important thing ever, but cheating is cheating. Dude lied about it twice.

Bonds almost sounds like he's pleading his own case. He would be well-served to come clean himself.

The thing is though that Arod is seen as somewhat unlikeable even outside of the roids. Same with Barry and Clemens.

I agree. I don't take the steroids thing wayyyy tooooo seriously. I just choose to support other players and talk shite about the ones I don't like. On the same vein, don't get all pissed because we don't like you. You're not running for president.

I'm done letting the steroid cloud take away from the joy of watching Bonds play. While juicing, his swing was so beautiful. The ball just floated off the bat.

Everyone was doing it. As time goes on, I think Bonds will be given a pass.

The thing that's so aggravating about Arod and Bonds is that they never needed steroids in the first place. You're talking about two of the top 10 talents in baseball history imo. Both would've been legends with or without the juice.

You were right until you said "somewhat".

He's terrible. I can't think of a more disliked superstar in baseball in my lifetime.

I bet Bonds didn't say things like this during contract negotiations.

Tons of people disliked ARod well before the roids thing came out. Dude catches heat b/c he has always been a narcissistic jack arse.

Just look at how people reacted to Andy Pettitte for example. He was well liked and when he got popped. He admitted it and pretty much everyone forgave him.

ARod isn't getting that b/c he was already a known dickhead. The fact that he so smugly denied being a cheater only made it all the more obvious he was a shithead.

bonds started juicing because his place in baseball was being immediately affected by others using
