My kids watch it on their computers . I dig it. Except when those kids walk on my lawn and I have to get off the couch to berate them. But I digress...

I want to watch it on my tv as simply as possible. I rented a beach house this week and they had a remote with a Netflix button and it was super-easy.

Do I buy the remote? Do I need a Directv remote (I want to keep Directv) and a second remote? Does Netflix provide one? What level of service is best? What can I expect to pay ?

This is Your chance to mock and educate.

Roku. Get it at best buy for $100. It also has way more than Netflix. It's pretty awesome.

Do you have a "smart" tv? Netflix was probably an app on the tv a the beach. We use an apple tv, which is like an extra cable box that you plug into the tv. It has watch espn, netflix and youtube on it among other things.

That was a smart TV with the Netflix app built in. The remote is not going to give you Netflix.

Get a Roku, Firestick, Xbox, or a new TV

Damn you old.

I recommend a dedicated steaming device over a "smart" tv.

Roku is better than FireTv IMO unless you are a dedicated Amazon streaming content user.

Sorry bro. I've been too busy running a company and raising kids and doing real-world shite to keep up with the popular culture and technological advances. I have like maybe an iPhone 3 and I have never done anything other than make calls and take a picture on it. I haven't gamed since maybe 1987. This will piss you off for sure-I couldn't name a single Beyoncé/Kanye West song, never watched The Kardashians and can't name a single starter for The Washington Wizards.

That's why I ask people who know this stuff, like my OT peeps.

Roku is like 70 bucks and has netflix, hulu, etc.. just need the internet. My blue ray player also came with smart features, which means it had netflix installed. Just had to link it to the internet. And as others have said, smart tv's come with it loaded on them as an app.

I tried the expensive ROKU and unless it improved it was not that great. TWC was so afraid of losing customers they re did their format like ROKU's.

I think the question remains of the OP. Which is better directTV or DISH? Do they both have user friendly remotes? It is a shocker to some of us, how all's you seem need is Amazon-Prime or Netflix.

In a home where a desktop computer is no longer. Direct or Dish with a $30 wifi for the tablets/laptops; from best buy seems like it could be a way to go?

That is the remote that came with the TV. I'm betting it was a Panosonic Smart TV.

Why is it a bragging point to admit you aren't up with the times?

Why do people always kick into high defense mode over this shite?

The correct answer has been stated: get a Roku Streaming Stick or Amazon Fire TV Stick. The Fire TV Stick is cheaper. Both are probably easier to use than the Smart TV you were using with the netflix button. Smart TVs are generally sluggish and frustrating, and you can get the same functionality out of a $30 dongle that plugs into an HDMI port.

I've got a 40 dollar machine I got from Walmart that's a bluray player and has netflix (and a netflix button on the remote) that connects wirelessly to my wifi. Also has you tube.

But I also have a chromecast and like to use that one over the other

Neither options are expensive

My parents have a Samsung smart tv and it runs netflix/Hulu/YouTube flawlessly but the HBOGO is choppy
