BR man steals gun, accidently shoots himself

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police have arrested a man after they say he shot himself with a stolen gun.

Police say around 4 a.m., they received a call of a shooting at the Crestwood Suites. When officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Ian Scamardo suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Scamardo insisted that someone had shot him but upon inspection of the gunshot wound, officers noticed that the entry and exit wounds were consistent with a self inflicted gunshot wound.

During the investigation, officers learned that earlier in the night, Scamardo broke into three cars in the parking lot. A gun and money were taken from the vehicles. That is when detectives learned that Scamardo was playing with the gun when it discharged hitting him in the leg.
