It might be the most interesting draft question for me-
The mock tea leaves show an increasing chance he could be on the board at #13 Survey...

nfl.com 12, 20, 17, 10
Walter 2
drafttek 6
GBN 2
composite he is at #6 on 35% of mock drafts.

It reminds me much of 2005 when Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers were neck n neck for who would be the #1 predraft. Rodgers fell to #24. I don't think the Packers had him as a target. Favre was 36 and still performing well (much like Brees). They just couldn't pass on the opportunity though. Rodgers sat for 3 years (35 attempts). It is difficult to to deal with a top pick sitting for the cap and the need of talent for competing. The old fashioned "let him learn behind our HOFer" certainly worked though. (Rodgers 70-33 as starter)

I do not know Mariota well enough to know if he justifies similar consideration. Most reports say he needs a little refining. In the sit & learn scenario that would be fine.

Do you take him at #13?

More, I would like informed opinions of those that might have watched Oregon or have seen more film than I. For me it is a tough call. If they grade him high enough I have no problem with it. Also, we know Loomis is never hesitant to move a few spots to get a target. Pick #75 or 78 could move the Saints up to the #9 or 10 spot.

Definitely wouldn't trade up for him, but I would definitely consider taking him at 13.

Nope. Unless they have him as their highest ranked player at that point.

I - would not trade up but would consider taking him as he could even be traded after the draft. To me if Sants draft him they would have to go with three Quaterbacks on 53 roster as to me it would take him a year to be ready an he is not a option for the practice squad like Griffin would be this year.Best if he is there Trade Down.Mute point he will not likely be there at 13th an NO trade ups to get him.

No and no. The most important skill for a QB is accuracy. He's not that accurate. Pass.

I'm in the minority. I believe if he is there at 13 we will take him. It's an opportunity to get a possible replacement for Drew without having one of those 2-14 campaigns. If it works out, he'll be well versed in a Sean Payton offense by the time we actually need him to take the reins. Calculated gamble that will appeal to the ego of our head coach.

I will say tt hhat if the Saints have him rated as the highest player on their board when the 13th pick some around, I wont mind the pick. Its not who I would want them to pick as there will be other options available. Maybe we get lucky, he's there at 13 and we draft him and trade him to another team for more picks.

Admittedly, I haven't seen Mariota play enough to make that call. However, if he isn't accurate, DO NOT waste the pick. IMO, the great QB's all have two traits:

1. They are fierce competitors who love perfecting the mental aspect it takes to be a great QB

2. They don't miss their target very often

A guy can have all the physical talent in the world, but if he (a) doesn't know where to throw it and/or (b) can't hit his receiver, none of it matters. Just look at today's greats:

Brady - One of the fiercest competitors to ever play the position

Manning - Has anyone ever understood the game of football better?

Brees - Might make some bad decisions here and there, but he RARELY misses his spot. It's incredible how accurate he is.

Rogers - Rocket arm AND accurate. If he is on, the opponent is helpless

Luck - Not as good as the other 4 in any one particular aspect, but may have the best combination of all four traits. Barring injury, he's a future HOFer

I think you have to take him at #13 if he is there. we have 2-3 years left with drew.

alot of it is probably going to be determined by if payton plans on sticking around after drew leaves. if he does then I can see him taking a guy like mariota, if he doesnt then I can see them passing on him and leaving the mess for the next guy in hopes of getting someone that can help them win now.

I've watched Mariota a few times this past season and I immediately thought he reminded me of Colin Kaepernick. He's very poised and confident that he can use his speed to get out of trouble.

Coming out of a spread offense will require him to sit and learn...and the Saints would be the perfect situation to do that.

Would I trade up for him? No. That would be an insult to Brees and the FO and Payton have too much respect for Brees to do that. If he fell in your lap at #13, there is no disrespect because he was the "BPA" on the board.

Bottom line: Pick him at #13.

no. If he falls to 13, seek a trade to the highest bidder.

if he's the best player available at the position, pick him.... sure, we have brees, but he's not gonna get any younger, and we have the rest of the draft to fill in holes....

This is all a moot issue because I truly believe the Eagles will move up ahead of us to grab him if he falls past #7.

If he's there at #13, it will be a tough call because the team has to decide where they are at the QB spot. Without a legitimate backup plan at QB, the team lacks leverage at the end of this season and I don't think anyone in their right mind believes the team will pay Brees $27.4M in 2016.

If you do an extension, how many years and for how much? What if Brees says: "I want my money! I'll do a 3 year extension at $50M all guaranteed." What do we do at that point?

I'm not for moving up for him. The telling thing about Mariota was his performance in the championship game.

He looks to be a one maybe two read then run guy. Ohio state was able to lock down those main two reads and put a contain on him.

Now I think he has the head to overcome that but he is not a start right away guy. That said depends on the current mentality of the team. I personally think we still have a chance to win now and would be better picking a player that helps that and Mariota isn't that guy.

But I wouldn't hate it if he falls to 13 and all our other targets are gone
